What a pragmatic asshole!

Honestly, Arifureta is not to be taken seriously at all.

Even if the main story is somewhat serious, at one point the author is really starting to just have fun with his own character (pink space between MC and harem no matter the time and place, Chuuni-look, Hauria trained Hartmann-style with Chuunibyou on top, Hajime and his horrible short-temper, exaggerated OPness, and so on)

And lately I'm reading the after-story and God it's hilarious.

What the problem with an author having fun with the world and characters he imagined ?

Just don't think too much about it. At least Arifureta isn't one of those novel trying too hard to get serious.

My main problem is how it was so promising in the first chapters.

Before the edge, mind you

What a weird change in tone after all that edge.

Chapters are too short for something monthly :'(

Be advised, the joke bellow may be considered a spoiler for those who haven't read the Web Novel. It's about an upcoming event that's really about to happen considering where the manga is. I kind of tried to make the joke a little vague, but you'll probably guess what I'm implying.

Spoiler

You know, if these stories could keep the blatant wish-fulfillment harem trash out of them they'd be a lot more readable. This is okay thus far but if the comments surrounding the LN are true then:

Females wanting to claim strongest male. How is that unrealistic? And he is not yet another self insert generic donkan.

Finished the novel, and I'd say its really interesting, Not sure how the manga will deal with it, regards to the other people here, I feel like the harem in the WN actually was done well(ish), as in, they dont beat around the bush, not that I actually cared too much about that side of the novel. Need more Myuu afterstory though!

When I read the web novel, it started out interesting enough. Then I cut myself on the edge.

O-...okay? Chill, dude.

I think a lot of people don't like harem because it ruins potentially interesting stories by making all of the focus be on which generic waifus Cardboard Cutout-sama can swoon hard enough to get into their pantsu instead of on the setting, character development, the premise, or the actual overarching plot. If this story goes down the full-blown harem route the complaint would definitely be valid because what's keeping people reading/hooking them is the "dark fantasy"(edgy, if you don't like it) setting + the idea of watching an MC slowly getting stronger and having his worldview shattered, not the prospect of yet another "spectate a virgin with no clue how humans interact intimately playing a dating sim of his own creation" experience that isekai harems often end up devolving into.

I agree that there's nothing really wrong with these kind of stories existing, but you need to view it like how the general community reacts to Sword Art Online: it's not what it does that pisses people off, it's what it fails to do. It squanders a potentially interesting premise for the sake of harem hi-jinks and self-insert cliches. That's why these kind of stories get the flack that they do.

I don't consider Arifureta a dark fantasy. Dungeon Seeker sure.

Arifureta was light written and used the suffering of Hajime to make him OP.

It's a work filled with wish-fulfillment, cliches and tropes that the author likes.

The way he wrote it was filled with annoying 'furthermores' and the action scenes and monster names weren't really described as much as I hoped it would be. Toaru is darker than this.

This work is based on having cute girls and an op protagonist.

The dark parts can be summed up into:

The demis being slaves

The Empire being the ones who do it

Myuus kidnapping

etc etc devils etc... fuck ehito... etc.

Which are all settings to make such a protagonist move and bring out his actions into a justifiable level.

What the Author looked for is an Evil to be Perished completely so the outcome can be a happy one.

This is a harem work with dark elements. Not really a dark fantasy which Tate no Yuusha and Dungeon Seeker. Mushoku Tensei is darker than this.

I like a simple work like this.

Really liking Yue...but then again she's an adorable vampire sooo that's kinda a given for me. I do kinda want to see them get out of the underground though, not tired of it just yet but I can see being that way in a few more chapters.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!
You read harem but then you only want the MC to choose one. Then some go ballistic if its not the girl that they chose. And when it actually ended in a harem scenario, you're still pissed off.

In the fucking first place, wish fulfillment is one of the reasons people write. It's better than writing to please the faqing masses.
Sometimes, its okay just to have a few of this.
It might not get an anime.
Heck, I didn't even enjoy the last battle. It feels too rushed and there was no build up. I LOVE HAREM AND I HATE IT WHEN THE FAQING PROTAGONIST RELIES ON HIS DENSITY AND CLUELESSNESS TO KEEP THE FAQUING SERIES GOING UNTIL HE EVENTUALLY CHOOSES THE FEMALE LEAD.

I LIKE THIS TRASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to say, I'm more impressed by this than I thought I would be at first. I like the do anything to survive aspect, not something you see in a lot of insekai

Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari? This one is pretty much a shittier version of that manga.

Harem isekai with op MC.

Nah, i pass. Enjoy your copy-paste story.

My thought exactly there has been too many of this achetype lately. This one isnt even trying to add a new spin to it.

I, too, wish  for a loli vampire

god i love Yue T-T

I officially like this mc. He's not too annoying, incompetent, or edgy. Best of all, he's not obsessed with anything (ie revenge). Too bad harems are still too much of a thing in mangoland, the women will become more of an annoyance to this story than the mc will ever be.

IKR, the harem part gonna get a little bit annoying, tbh Hajime will love only Yue and he rejects the other girls. The problem is Yue is the one that tries to pair hajime with another girl even though he didn't like it

She doesn't look 12 but ok Japan...ok.

Spoiler

So the MC is a masochist(because Yue sucks his blood).
