Dont forget that it's not what it's written, but how it is written, that makes literature.

I'd be pissed if the match were stopped because of an invasion of vampire alines from outer space.

Him winning or losing? It's prt of the game. Even Agassi lost plenty of matches in his youth (he says because of the envy of other kids' parents yadda yadda), and i concur that him winning the tournament would be so much shounen-esque, but there's so much of not-really-shounen stuff in here (starting with the basic fct that this is pretty real tennis: the pitch is not deformed by earth's curavture, no one has a signature stroke called "hurricane's eye", except The Okada's bazooka that gets laughed at, you get my drift) that i feel confident wont spoil the quality level of the story. If he doesnt win but somehow decieds to go for it anyway, he still need to struggle for finding sponsors and keep trying, find a suitable place to train, starting all over again from the botton and fight his way up.

As far as i am concerned, we are still much much well inside my bullshit envelope.

I've read the raws. I stand corrected.

Yeah, he commits suicide after failing horribly. Would you kindly go and see the 12 volumes of raws we still have to catch up with and stop being such an uninformed asshat?

Thanks for saying this. I thought he was right >_>

But at the same time we've spent the whole arc with the objective of: win the tournament, or else I leave!

Let's remember this is a  narrative work, so the so-called "acceptable breaks from reality are allowed to happen" from time to time (again, not pulled over and over). We've spent like a hundred or so chapters seeing him suffer and work his ass to death to reach the very summit. We see him have hardships and all (and in fact I'm buying him losing against Araya in the previous tournament) but in the end what is the result: he doesn't win and because he gets tired and he's movements are sloppy. Now, from a tennis stand-point it CAN happen but as a storytelling stand-point it feels like your average rail-roading. The grand goal he had promised and we had seen him pursue for a 100+ chapter isn't achieved and the whole issue is resolved with such a cop-out (oh, you know, I'm actually not giving up) killed whatever tension had built and it's wasted. There's not the promised payout, and that hampers the narrative.

why not. if he plays in a national environment why cant he place lower than 1st place? in all their sporting lives, Takuma never won in a final against Souji and never won a national until he (souji) went pro, Nabae ditto, and Araya hasnt won a single thing until Takuma and Ike Souji went pro, and only because Nabae played with something else on his mind in their last final.

The same Natsu has Aki roadblocking her at every national tournaments until now.

Dear, I've played tournaments, but we've spent 260+ chapter of him not winning the crucial tournaments. Doing good but in the end loosing is a trick that can be pulled, yeah, but not something that should be done, OVER AND OVER.

I see it as more of how realistic this manga is to the sport than just being a part of that cliche. We forget that in the 300+ chapters he's only been playing for a year and that's a very short amount of time experience wise. He's made up for some of it with his studying and hard work, but that can only get you so far. Realistically, he was not going to win this tournament.

He's actually played for two and he's trained like no one else has, or at least as shown in the story. It has gone to a nearly unhealthy angle in certain situations.

you may not know this, but out of all players partecipating to a tournament, only one gets to win. This doesnt mean tht ll the not-winners lives or careers are forfeited. now Maruo has made his path to win the Nationals, but if it werent for this, him getting to the semis is a surprising result already, and pretty more realistic than him dark-horse-winning: very manga-ish, but not that likely.

I accept whatever the mangaka throws at us, till now i never called bullshit on what he did.

But on a more serious note, am I the only one who's pissed at how things have developed? Somehow making it to the finals on the previous tournament but not making it to the national... I swear I wanted to flip my desktop at that as I yelled BULLSHIT. Seriously it pisses me off that whole: you won't win a shit til the finale! angle, Pokemon had that (Ash having won a single tournament... a filler arc's) and since then I haven't enjoyed that part. Seriously, he's won ONE competition in 300+ chapters (which was skimmed over) give the guy a fucking bone once and for all.

Clever very clever, you would do very good as seo but only under assumption that you added truck-san at the end killing their child xd.

I have to say what's the point of having what? 30?40? chapters about this game when eichiro is bound to lose? Wouldn't it be wiser to spend on this game half of the current chapter or even less and concetrate on transmission to new arc? Seriously.....

It's early seo before truck company started to sponsor him.

I liked suzuka...

I haven't read ahead. That said I really think his mom pushes him to continue. Then he impregnates natsu and kills her career....wait that was seo

pretty sure it's been 10 years since this match started smh

To be continued next chapter....

Hopefully the manga is about to end if he loses.  I am sorry but if Eiichirou doesn't win here I feel like the previous 280 chapters were a joke.  He needs to hold his promise to his parents and focus on school.  The entire build up of this manga was for this tournament and what comes after.  I can't take 300 more useless chapters of training. [/size]

There's at least 39 volumes so there's no way it's ending here. It may be the end for you here, but Ei-chan is serious about going pro and the state he is at now will definitely win his parents over. He's doing great.

I wonder where are all the "it's called Baby-steps, obviously it will be taken slow and steady" holy defenders. From all the BS powerups the author could have choosen, he went for Stamina God just to milk more chapters.

Nontheless, the manga is still above average as far as sport-genre goes and also last but not least a BIG thanks to the scalantion team for their work. Much appreciated for all your effort.

Well Kanda definitely has him beat in that aspect and it's not like Ei doesn't train

doesnt bode well

stamina god?

he's still on the losing side as far as this match goes in case of stamina

I don't really want Maruo to lose to the worst character in the series.

I came to this manga expecting bullshit.
And bullshit I found, in spades. Only, instead of having it shoveled in my face (and force fed) said bullshit was composted and used to fertilize and grow a beautiful garden full of delicious vegetables and fruit trees.
