"... using smarts, dedication and work ethic"

These are not sufficient to succeed in sport at the top levels. Talent (unfortunately) is a necessity. No matter how hard you try/train you can only reach a certain level, and going any further requires talent.

This is the current scientific consensus in educational psychology. It USED to be thought that if you train/practice enough you will eventually reach mastery (e.g. Gladwell's 10,000 hour rule) - but fairly substantial newer evidence/research has disproved this and indicates otherwise.

For the purpose of high-school level sport it doesn't really matter, but the message put across by many manga that 'enough hard work will lead to success' - while admirable - isn't really accurate.

 passion too!

Seems plausible for those who start at later age, on the other hand those who start early as early as 3 / 4 years old ... thats a difference story altogether.

p/s: there's this series I came across, if im not mistaken - the pretender, if such person with that kind of ability exist, the "... using smarts, dedication and work ethic" is possible  B) and it goes well for androids too  :D

1st time reading sports shounen manga.

nickname ALL A + Honour student + need to exercise - SOLD

p/s: it seems he's a bit of ocd type. the 1st chap- how can natsu be a klutz - doesnt sports train you to be fast in reflex . And for E-chan for his future job, he could do extremely well in anything related to analyis/actuary or even program something related to analysis.

pps: it's like im in physics and math class and robotic class with all the analysis , Ohhhh super excited..

ppps: the mangaka even include past experience/explain/circumstances that play part of how he is the way he is :)

UPDATES!!!!! <3

Nothing makes my day more than seeing baby Steps in the new releases feed, great chapter

That extra was actually pretty good, felt like a actual chapter without interrupting the main arc.

I accept this bonus chapter as offering... until next chapter. I NEED MOAR!

waaaaah!!! An update!! extras!! but update!! nonetheless!!

Part of me wants to read the raws, but at the same time, spoilers... Guess I'll have waiting.

i know the scanlators are having a hard time in RL, but i cant wait for new chapters :(

new chapter pleas

There is a way to count up to 70k (69999 to be precise) using only one hand

I could see higher numbers being possible by making use of the other joints on the fingers, however, only the knuckle joints can be bent comfortably for counting.

[citation needed]

Instead of counting the fingers it's possible to count the phalanx (the "section" of the finger) to get to 14, but if we also use a right, center, left division we can count up to 9 for every finger, except for the thumb, using the base of the finger or no position for 0, with that every finger is a power of 10, the pinkie for the units, the ring for the tens, the middle for the hundreds, the index for the thousand and the thumb for the ten thousand, like this

I already looked at the raws up to the latest chapter and WOW!! The waiting and expectation of the translated chapters intensified!! Thanks for the update!!

Using binary, it is possible to count all the way up to 1023 using both hands. (or 31 if you only want to use one hand)

poor aki :(

You have 24 fingers?!?

You have 24 fingers?!?

There are 3 digital bones for every finger and 2 for every thumb. That means you have a combined total of 28 digital bones that can be used for counting. So you could count up to 28 on your hands alone.

another good slice of life sports, though horses, no tennis balls http://bato.to/comic/_/comics/ja-ja-uma-grooming%E2%98%85up-r6632

262?!

24 more chapters just for this match?!?!!1!1!              Gah.

You have 24 fingers?!?

I also dont have a good feeling for Maruo because of the plot structure.  He hasn't won against someone who has been was deemed to be a boss (Araya, Nabase), And only been Ide because that would just kill the plot line of not qualifying for Japan Junior.

And of all seriousness, he's playing against someone modeled after Nadal, High arching topspin and undying stamina.  I dont see him getting out of this one.

Well, his match and that other girl at least, I would guess. If you think about it, this manga has him analyzing almost every other shot his opponent makes. You have to expect that it will have a slow pace.
