Description: Asta and Yuno were abandoned together as babies in baskets at the same church on the same day, and have been inseparable since. As children, they promised that they would compete against each other to see who would become the next Wizard King. However, as they grew up, some differences between them became plain - Yuno was a magical prodigy, while Asta could not use magic at all. In a country where magic is everything and athletic ability is nothing, Asta tried every day to provoke even the simplest magic out of himself with physical training and loud proclamations of his will.

At age 15, during the group ceremony where three-leaf-clover grimoires of different designs float down to each person, Yuno receives a spectacular book with the legendary four-leaf clover, while Asta receives nothing at all. Later, however, when Yuno was surprised and trapped by a fallen magic knight, the truth about Asta's power and determination was revealed—a dark-covered, obscurely patterned grimoire broke out of the ceremony tower and came before him! This "black clover" book of anti-magic had a five-leaf clover on the cover, even though Asta himself did not see it as it lit up briefly just that one time while he defended his friend.

Now the two friends, the four-leaf-clover genius and the no-talent with the hidden black clover, are heading out in the world, competing for the same goal...

Let's take a moment to appreciate the Luffy homage on the bottom left panel.

Spoiler

FYI, if you, or others, didn't know, the reason that is there is because 7/19 was the 20th Anniversary of One Piece's serialization, so other manga works are giving tributes to it this week, and possibly for the entire month.

*ZA HANDO SFX PLAYS*

What an original power. I've never seen anything like that before.

Lmao dude's name was "Jamon...." (Ham)....  Seriously a fat joke ...?

These chapters were awesome...  Finral really showed his worth.  I can't wait for him to show his brother his true power.  Seems were were given a glimpse of Finral's past..

Spoiler

I'm really hyped for this tournament!

I kinda knew that space magic was really powerful, but I didn't realize it could be that powerful.

Naruto keep asking Sakura on a date every other chapter, now imagine Asta doing the same with the sister, it's going to get annoying fast. This is why I like where the series is going. I won't really say Astra doesn't have brain, he actually quite sharp and socially aware(most of the time) unlike most shonen protagonist, he is just very naive and uneducated. Huh, is it just or Asta is basically short for Astaroth?

He just needs to learn more from the best part of this manga: Captain Yami. They both are ripped and use close quarters combat. And he seems to be self-aware of all these manga tropes.

I don't recall, it's been a long time since I first saw Naruto, so I will have to just agree with you on that one.  I think the Sister thing was just meant to give more depth into Asta, but at the same time, Asta constantly says he will marry sister, so it will most likely be a run on gag.  Just not in the way that it ruins from the series, and causes our MC to do stupid shit for the woman (hope not).

If you look at Asta throughout the series, you will see him "burning out" trying to take in all of the information that others say, even if it's basic information.  He reminds me of normal Shounen MCs such as Luffy from OP, who isn't all that smart with learning and cannot really pay attention, but his instincts are top, and his physical abilities are second only to Yami.

As for "Astaroth" good catch, it's possible...

I also decided to look into "Yuno" and found https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juno_(mythology)

Interesting information.

I feel the Author tries to play on word a lot, so this is something that I don't doubt was done on purpose.

----------------------------------------------------

I haven't posted this yet, but when we were first introduced to "Lady MeoLeoLeona" I realized that their entire family is named after "Leo," the Lion, and since they are the "Crimson Lions..."

"MeLeoLeona" 2x leo

"Leopold"

"FuegoLeon"

Well, I'm not sure if they were competing with Sister, it just seemed that it was all Asta, and Yuno was just telling Asta she cannot get married.  With Naruto, I don't think he ever showed much affection towards Sakura physically(but I could be wrong), but everyone kind of knew he liked her.  Asta does mention throughout the series that he is still going to marry Sister, so it's a run on gag, but is different than Naruto trying so hard to impress Sakura.  Asta isn't trying to impress anyone, he is trying to be the best himself.  Granted at the start he was trying to show the others that he could use magic too and was strong, so who knows...  He doesn't try to be all that in front of his friends though.  I think he just didn't want to be looked at like some useless piece of trash.

I think the issue is that Naruto is one of those manga that "Everyone has heard of," so it's easy to compare it.  Plus, it being in the "Big 3" it's a manga that people will look at to copy.. It used to be that everyone compared everything to Dragon Ball, which those "Big 3 Manga" had taken stuff from as well.  The thing is, there might be "some" elements from Naruto, but there are a lot of typical Shounen material which Naruto also uses.

Well, Asta doesn't really have a brain because he gets easily confused, like most typical Shounen MCs, but he is typical in the fact that he has instinct (like most Action/Adventure MCs).  Asta most likely knew that it was the same magic instinctively, or possibly since he can read ki, he might be able to understand more about magic, that we have been shown.

I understand that but it almost turn me off from the whole series and still a valid complain, and I'm glad the author resolve it in just one chapter. Well, look at part one Naruto that is what I mean about "Rival and Crush" He keep trying to one up Sasuke and impress Sakura like Asta did in the first chapter with Yuno and the nun, Naruto keep doing it 100 chapter while Black Clover does the good thing and ended it right after the first chapter. Yeah, I also like it. People may compare to Naruto but it goes all the way since anime was anime was invented. Asta is one of the better example of those archtype, it also help that he has brain and capable of thinking think through making him different than generic shonen protagonist and more likable. Comment on this chapter: "You are the one who put the trap on me." I love hiw Astra notice it and calling him out, it's a moment that subtly show he is very sharp without saying it out loud. Though I love the masked guy for giving the other knight the burn: "And you lost to such a person."

Well, they have to start a story somehow, and when it's geared towards kids you have those kind of intros.  One Piece has a similar intro.  I think the first chapter shows a lot about our MC and his friend.

Not sure what you mean about "Rival and Crush from the MC."

I personally like how Asta is always about "Never Giving up" and always wanting to continue on, no matter what. Some people say that's all Naruto, but that's just how a lot of Shounen MC's act.  It's all about showing that no matter the odds, you can do it if you try hard enough.  It's a lesson to all of us, and something that boosts our spirits when we are down.

Some people feel the exact opposite that I do about it though.

Provocation and reflecting spells. Quite a combination indeed.

But there was a mirror magic user already

That's not his ability though. His ability seems to be drawing magic circle which can be used to capture enemy spells and release them.

But there was a mirror magic user already

I have a feeling that Zachs' ability is to "reflect."  When Zachs fought that other Vice Captain, Zachs egged him on, and then when the other VC attacked, we then see Zachs had smashed him into a wall.

It's possible Zachs will reflect the 3 attacks back at their respective casters, or even to others.

I have been thinking how Asta would turn back to normal, and then be able to stop all 3 attacks, even in his anti-magic demon mode.  It's still possible that Asta could do something, but I have a feeling Zachs is going to do something.

I really like the series but let's be honest here, the first chapter is very cringe worthy. The author actually realize what made part 1 Naruto so cringy and put a distance between the rival and the crush from the main character. Everything is great from there. I'm really worried about the anime though, Studio pierrot do not have a good track record.

I suppose I could reread BC from the start, but I don't have the time or desire to do so. Who is Mimosao again? Please summarize what she did with the MC or what chapters she was in before this new arc, especially appreciated if you could tell me what chapter she was introduced.

And please put your answer here so I don't miss it. http://bato.to/forums/topic/26871-black-clover-released-chapter-discussion/

Someone who actually likes this series, posting about it in the comments?  Blasphemy I tell you, Blasphemy!!

They're from a light novel. It was a really weird move from the author to just toss them in the middle of an arc as if they were properly introduced earlier. I would expect it to be touched upon in the upcoming anime.

Damn, Vice-Captain Zachs is great, can't wait to learn more about him.  Hopefully my theories about him are correct.

Thank you Jaimini's ~box~ for being the scanlation group we need, not the one we deserve!

My only issue with them is that 3 chapters out of the last 10 have pages missing.

The king is so useless that if the Emperor decide to do a coup no one would bat an eye and just let it happen. The emperor know it and the people know it.
