Description: Asta and Yuno were abandoned together as babies in baskets at the same church on the same day, and have been inseparable since. As children, they promised that they would compete against each other to see who would become the next Wizard King. However, as they grew up, some differences between them became plain - Yuno was a magical prodigy, while Asta could not use magic at all. In a country where magic is everything and athletic ability is nothing, Asta tried every day to provoke even the simplest magic out of himself with physical training and loud proclamations of his will.

At age 15, during the group ceremony where three-leaf-clover grimoires of different designs float down to each person, Yuno receives a spectacular book with the legendary four-leaf clover, while Asta receives nothing at all. Later, however, when Yuno was surprised and trapped by a fallen magic knight, the truth about Asta's power and determination was revealed—a dark-covered, obscurely patterned grimoire broke out of the ceremony tower and came before him! This "black clover" book of anti-magic had a five-leaf clover on the cover, even though Asta himself did not see it as it lit up briefly just that one time while he defended his friend.

Now the two friends, the four-leaf-clover genius and the no-talent with the hidden black clover, are heading out in the world, competing for the same goal...

This time is Final Fantasy eh

What do you mean, this time. They are already using FF monsters.

Wait a fucking minute, then does this means these dudes with the 3rd eye are being artificially made or something? Or is it Fana alone that was trapped and then released by the Diamond Kingdom?

I'm not one to do this type of thing, but this is the internet so...

This time is Final Fantasy eh

So it's Naruto and Vegeta vs Babi Bulma...

This should get interesting.

The memory explanation could be made a bit longer, the mangaka really needs to work his pacing

His artwork is really good though

At least this manga is somehow less cliche than Demon's Plan. If that shitfest doesn't get cancelled it'll be an embarrassment to all of Jump.

But yeah, the whole "no consequences" thing and the recent "Light Novel characters matter" thing are both stupid as fuck.

I've caught up with this manga and read quite a few comments on it so I wanted to throw my opinion in the pot as well

I've been avoiding reading this manga because the summary screamed cliche at me. I wasn't really interested in yet another shounen battle manga but I finally gave in and started reading, partially out of boredom but mostly for this one reason: I wanted to see if the main character and his rival/best friend stay best friends. That is my favorite thing about this whole manga and while I still feel like the Sasuke defection/"I'm fighting you for your own good" arc is still on the horizon, it's really nice to see a rival character who isn't stupidly broody and a jerk.

That reason aside, I also like the comedy. I feel like it always catches me by surprise or says what I would want to say in that situation without distracting from the battle too much which, I think is a problem for a lot of shounen manga.  I also feel, and people will probably disagree with me, that the battles never really go in the direction I expect them too which is a good and bad thing.

Speaking to the cons, I mean we all know that there are no consequences for anything, that those LN character add ins were a stupid idea, and that Aster always saves the day through a mixture of fighting and shouting but I don't really mind that too much. It's not painfully stupid and I actually like the fact that the people around aster all become better people through meeting rather than stay stagnated messes. Yeah it's forced and yeah it happens stupidly fast but it;s better than no character development.

The MC is really weakly written. He's so shounen, he's not even funny.

He's a throwback from Naruto and Natsu Dragnir

And probably the least interesting of the lot.

In short, the new cashcow of Shounen Jump.

Oh God, this arc is shittiest so far:
-characters you had to read LNshit spin-off to know who the fuck they are playing a pivotal role with no explanation for them in the manga,
-Assta/dumbster healed in like two seconds after only a couple chapters of looking for a cure, consequnces don't exist in this shitfest,
-guy randomly turns traitor against his own guys after a short backstory chapter
-now this asshole have a reunited childhood friend (WHO WAS DEAD FOR YEARS) he needs to save

When will Japanese notice this manga is complete garbage and ranking plummets?

- LN part - yep, that's not right, but author gave them background in manga, saying that they are traitors to Diamond.
- Thants on point.
- In new chapter it is siad why he did that. And Marth's change in mind and his childhood friend foreshadowing is probably one of the deepest parts
parts of plot in BC right now, lol.
I don't know why, but this chapter felt like some old Final Fantasy battles party against boss...

well i'm still hooked to it. no one said that classical cliches are always bad. otherwise we'd all be sick of Beethoven, Mozart, and Bach already because they're "cliches". it won't die off just yet so sit tight and enjoy the show. ooooor walk out and stay Gloomy McGloomyface, scrooge. =D

I've found out about this today and just finished reading all chapters from 01 to 91, can anyone explain me where did Fanzel, Domina and Mariella come from? I can't remember them from any other chapter, they appear out of nowhere...

They're from some LN side story type thing.

This arc is so fucking boring

Since when this edge boy was cool? What's worse it's getting more and more shitty with each chapter.

Since Vegeta

This arc is really weak all around.  Introduction of random unknown characters; reusing warp, aster, and string(WAS); random betrayal thanks to unknown characters; Forest Queen's bipolarness towards Aster and Co(wanting to kill them all, then saving Aster), another OP character that gets defeated by WAS.

Overall, this arc was created based on Aster's arms that were purposely harmed so that he could get "Even stronger" thanks to the Forest Queen(Stupid development imo).

I really feel this manga is going downhill now.  It had a lot of potential, but it's kind of idk now.  I feel there is no real plot at all, besides trying to figure out what's going on with the OP group, but introducing other groups and confusing the shit out of us overall where this manga is headed.

Anyone else feeling the same as me?

Well this manga is a naruto rehash into a fantasy setting. Magic Emperor is basically just Hokage. The only remaining interesting plotline is the existence of the anti-magic swords

Well I've been realizing long enough that this is made for middle schoolers boys in minds, as long as it's flashy and cool looking they'll be satisfied. The intended target audience probably won't even notice these faults. There's a reason why it's published as shounen series.

The weird one are adults who reads manga made for kids and complaining it's childish/naive. If you want story with less faulty plot maybe you need to reconsider on reading seinen series instead of shounen like this.

Though I'm actually agreeing that on it's plot there's a lot can be improved, but when remembering the intended target audience I can comprehend why it feels lacking but still popular. It's one of the case when bad series are more popular since they're getting what the intended target audience wants than well produced series but out of the understanding of the intended target audience.

Children are not retards, they can understand the problems in a story just fine, we're not talking about 5-8 eight year old kids here, but 12-15 year old. They are already smart enough(or at least they should be) to realize the story sucks. Story sucked from day one, i don't even know how you guys didn't notice this until now.

My own theory is that those guys had great expectations of this, because it presented a kind of plot that's not really common in Jump. And since the art and the action provided some relief from all the problems the story had. They decied to gamble on it, and continue reading for the time being.

Well they weren't exactly wrong since the author may have noticed that there were several troublesome elements in his story, and so the future arcs all had an extra focus on action, and lesser focus on human relationship, this way he avoided remembering people how miraculous can Aster's words be.

Spoiler

Hey, hey.. This evil character is a bit cool. Lets turn him into good guys without any logic.

I think the art is genuinely good. But that probably worked against Black Clover in the long run in terms to reaching out to people beyond its target demographic. Manga being a visual medium the art and general aesthetic is as integral to telling the story as the writing.

The art reminds me a lot of Berserk's aesthetic at least in the early chapters and, I am only speculating here, that may have given people the wrong impression about this series and may have set their expectations too high going in. So when the admittedly lackluster story doesn't quite match up to the genuinely good artwork, the criticism may be harsher as the flaws of the story become more prominent. If Black Clover's artstyle was more indicative of the kind of story it wanted to tell I think that people in general would be a lot less harsh on it. Maybe

My issue with manga like this is that they start off really well, but then turn into a pile of poo.

I've been noticing this a lot lately with many manga, and it's pissing me off.  I used to give manga/anime more chances before I dropped it, but now I really try to find "winners."  It is hard sometimes, because you need to read some chapters to get a feel, and even if you really are caught by the manga, you might think it's crappy later.
