Description: One day in the 21st century, a gate opened
in the middle of the Ginza district of
Tokyo. Out of the gate poured soldiers and
strange creatures, and they soon made Ginza
look like an image of hell. The gate apparently connected Japan to another world, a world
with a militant empire and many supernatural creatures. The Japanese Self-Defense Force
decided to send a small group, led by a
soldier who's also an otaku, into the other
world on a reconnaissance mission. They're
meant to learn what they can about the empire (and its plans), the world, and the people.

They're hardly in the world yet, though, when
they come across a village destroyed by a
giant fire-breathing dragon. The only survivor
is an unconscious elven girl they find hidden
in a well. Now they feel like they must warn
the nearby towns about the dragon, and do what they can to help. On the way, they'll meet more magical, female companions, and learn more about this dangerous new world.

Well, if the dragon only breathed plain flame on it,, I don't see why a jet would even take all that much damage. A purely heat weapon would be more likely to kill the pilot than damage the plane.

So I guess when you look at it that way, if the flame was enough to fry the circuitry on the plane, then the survival of the pilot is pretty amazing; plot armor.

Biggest issue would be the jet intakes and exterior sensors/targeting equipment.  Makes sense that you could knock out the sensors and limp back to base on reduced thrust.

Man, those dark elves sure are dumb. I'd let the Apostle loose on them.

f-4 v.s red dragon... winner: red dragon!

heck, how bout using a much better fighter plane?..

and remember the dragon is a "coward" since he used firebreath in the dog fight :D

Looks like all JSDF members in this manga have strong plot armor if even just secondary characters from JSDF survived against a dragon...

Only up to Chapter 7, but man I face palmed big time at the other world kingdom.

You invade another world, killing everyone you find. But when you find out that you're up against a technologically superior fighting force, the best response that you can think of is to send a bigger army? And when that counter-offensive failed with every, single, man, dead, the next best thing is to start killing your own citizens with a scorched earth policy?

Even real-life dictators would face palm at something like this.

f-4 v.s red dragon... winner: red dragon!

heck, how bout using a much better fighter plane?..

they only bring old guns and equipment into the gate because they dont want to risk brand new equipment. Also, in case that stuff gets stolen, they can always turn around and bring in a new model to out class it.   The planes didn't lose, technically, they were just checking out its maneuverability and abilities.  Im pretty sure one strafing run from an A-10 warthog would put the dragon in the ground.

shit that f-4 vs dragon....

I just had a thought: you know how in Japanese R and L are sort of interchangeable, so doesn't the name Rory become Loly, like a real loli that she is?

LOL try to head-on and energy fighting with dragon =)).

Its blank :(  damn being trolled! hehe

OST when jet vs hueg ass dragon.

Chapter 41 RAWs are up at alphapolis.  All I can say is  Holy Hanna!  S**t hit the fan.

... and the failure is entirely preventable through sufficient training.

Speaking as someone whom was once a qualified small arms expert via the USMC...this is an erroneous statement. The training helps, but conditions, target motion, shooting stance, balance, and other factors all affect performance. Especially with a friendly in relatively close proximity to the target.

That most police officers have such low accuracy at close range in real-life situations is exactly why it's relevant.

It's one thing to have all the time in the world to be calmly lining up the sights, firing on harmless immobile targets, at a shooting range with consistent lighting. But at night, in a poorly lit area (especially for someone who was just indoors, without time for their eyes to adjust), against a fast moving hostile, while their body is reacting to the adrenaline rush from triggered by the stress of the situation?

First, you're implying police officers faithfully keep up with their training. There's a reason why I hesitate to accept police statistics as reliable outcomes of consistent training. I get where you're coming from, but such a statistic doesn't account for practice.
Second, I totally get what you're saying about the conditions, but look at this:
http://bato.to/read/_/277257/gate-thus-the-jsdf-fought-there_ch40v2_by_ak-scanlations/47
Absolutely no way that should happen, stab wound or not. That is straight up sloppy. Also, though the opponent moved fast, by no means is a fast target unhittable.
Third, even if we accept the police statistics, for him to miss every single shot is unfathomable.
Finally, my original point being that sufficient training can prevent such a fuckup, Yanagida only has himself to blame for missing every shot. At least the base will be alerted, but skimping on practice ("sufficient" instead of "prepared") may very well be his demise. If, in fact, the jsdf does not train it's soldiers to hit moving targets, or drill them to hit on the move, or train them to fight on the spur, then that would be a failure of the jsdf.

Not trying to get into an argument here. You're proposing a reason for yanagida's failure, and for the most part I understand. I'm saying that it's no excuse and the failure is entirely preventable through sufficient training.

Well, I get what you're saying, but my point still stands: skimp on practice and you shoot like shit. That most police officers have low accuracy doesn't necessarily refute that. Yanagida should have spent more time training. Now, he's paying the price.

Eh... Based on police firearm discharge statistics, generally the accuracy of shots fired from 0-to-6 feet away in real-life situations is only around 40~50%. Why should a REMF like Yanagida be expected to do any better in a poorly lit area at night, against an assailant that can literally move with inhuman agility?

This is why you don't skimp on marksmanship. Practice makes (and keeps) perfect. Missing point blank with a handgun is just absurd. Also, the gunshots would not only attract nearby grunts, but would likely make the bunny bleed out the ears and be concussed from the shock, so the author is confirmed as no gunz.
