Description: One day in the 21st century, a gate opened in the middle of the Ginza district of Tokyo. Out of the gate poured soldiers and strange creatures, and they soon made Ginza look like an image of hell. The gate apparently connected Japan to another world, a world with a militant empire and many supernatural creatures. The Japanese Self-Defense Force decided to send a small group, led by a soldier who's also an otaku, into the other world on a reconnaissance mission. They're meant to learn what they can about the empire (and its plans), the world, and the people.

They're hardly in the world yet, though, when they come across a village destroyed by a giant fire-breathing dragon. The only survivor is an unconscious elven girl they find hidden in a well. Now they feel like they must warn the nearby towns about the dragon, and do what they can to help. On the way, they'll meet more magical, female companions, and learn more about this dangerous new world.

Gotta say, I'm not particularly impressed with how Ms. Japanese Embassy leader (I forget her name if they mentioned it).  If they're going to act counter to orders from Japan, have the guts to take responsibility and lead, actually make a decision, rather than just accepting whatever Sugawara does or doesn't do.

Not sure if I completely understand the comment, but I think it had to do with if you accept one, you have to accept them all. He did what everyone was thinking and now they have to go along with it.

which is awkward, considering these were done by AK, which usually does a decent job in any scan.

maybe done by a group of rookies, or the raws they get is just shit

The people who do Gate and various other web-based series are not in total connection with the rest of us (who do Upotte, GuP, etc). /ak/ scans as a whole only has a central team with various splinter groups doing what they want at will. It's a little like a confederacy, with the power being in the hands at the local level rather than at the federal level.

We'd love to make the quality of releases much higher, but we don't really have any communications with the various people who work on it.

Go goad them to contact us more, and maybe you all will see better releases in the future... I dream of a day where we can get our backlog finished with the manpower we technically already have, but are unable to fully use efficiently.

We're almost out of anime territory.

And as usual, these are some of the worst scans for any series, rivaled only by The Mage Will Master Magic in His Second Life.

Make sure to double check before committing it into memory though. The goal of the comment section is only to sound smarter than the previous comment, not to be more precise.

As someone posting some of that information, I second this. Always always always check and double check information. We live in a world where people now champion willful ignorance and only look at what they want to believe instead of what the world and the truth says are actually true.

In my defense tho, the article I posted does come from a Question/Answer site that regularly checks and fact-checks the answers that people give; I also used it because it was a very concise and well-worded explanation from a Japanese lawyer and was much more readable/digestible than simply linking to the Japanese laws themselves with no explanation or context. Hell, I even think after looking into the author that after he graduated from law school and came back to his answer that he changed it to the current one to be more accurate in what he answered.

I'll also say that a lot of posters on this site in the comments section are a surprising fountain of knowledge about shit you'd never figure; I remember a manga where the comment section taught me about proper breach and clear protocol from an ex-SWAT member. Basically all types of people read manga so you never know what fun new info you'll learn reading the comment section.

Every "refutation" to my post: "I don't care that you have facts and evidence supporting your statement, it doesn't happen! LALALALALALALA" *plugs ears* Try being less delusional guys.

"I'm not wrong, you are, so there."

No, I don't have anything useful to add. I'm slowly learning the "proper" use of online comment sections.

I read your links and theirs. The facts and evidence you posted are proof that it does happen.  The facts and evidence they posted are proof that it is a rare occurrence, especially relative to the rest of the world.

Very satisfying.

I prefer the wording that W.C. Fields is credited as having used to say the same thing you did,

Two things wrong with that:

1. The data sensationalizes the issue.

Spoiler

2. It's still not a major issue.

Spoiler

The US may have its flaws, but forced child marriage isn't a major one. [Edit for clarity]: No denying that it still happens. Not saying that the situation can't improve either, of course. But why are people complaining about America? Why not play keyboard warrior 'til you're tired for the plight of poor girls throughout the rest of the world, who have it objectively millions of times worse?

must be, in the US girls are still routinely forced into marriage at 12 and younger. they're often forced to marry men who molested and raped them.

you didnt misread that.  forced child marriage is a major thing in the US. forced into marriage because they were molested and raped.

I'm learning so much about consent laws in the comments.

Why are the scans so low res? Are there no better ones available?

I think you may have confused the US with the Middle East. They wed and have children very early there, even to their abusers, an honor thing or something... Sometimes as young as ten, sometimes younger for marriage. In America, any intercourse before 18 is rape, consensual or not. And marriage can't happen until their 18. So I don't know where the "forced to marry their abuser" being a major thing in the US comes from.

Although the child marriage, while uncommon, does seem to be a minority thing, most of the Middle East may not do it and only the stricter followers of the religion practice it, but it does happen.

Also, he describes the marriageable age in Japan better than I could.

no, no, no...  what he said was right, read this:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/26/opinion/sunday/it-was-forced-on-me-child-marriage-in-the-us.html?_r=0

Eh, the whole "age of consent" thing is a bit confusing for people who basically just Google it without any knowledge of the complexity of Japan's legal systems regarding it and assume that means they're okay fucking 13 year olds all day. That's...not true.

I suggest giving the following answer on Quora a read because it's one of the best summations for their meandering weirdo laws that I've found. And yes, the laws often don't even make sense to the people that live there.

https://www.quora.com/Why-is-the-age-of-consent-so-low-in-Japan

To sum up, basically:

-Age of Consent is used for the purposes of defining statutory rape; defined as sex with anyone under 13 years of age (unless both partners are under 13) nationally. A number of prefectures have raised this within their own borders, to numbers like 16 or 18 which take precedence over the national number.

-The Juvenile Obscenity act nationally protects minors from what are defined as "unethical relationships" which is basically a very vague and encompassing term for anyone under 18 years of age. This would be your relationships that a teacher and a student would generally fall under. The laws and punishments normally fall under this area and trust me, they get fucking complex. The article I linked above has a whole chart detailing at what age each party gets which punishment.

-Civil Codes are laws between citizens that basically protect the family and relatives by basically defining anyone under 20 as juveniles; long story short making it so anyone under 20 must show deference to their parents and family and cannot make decisions of relationships on their own without general consent. This is much looser as obviously if two 18 year olds go "fuck you, we're going out and smanging" there isn't a heck of a lot anyone can do (sorta). Still you'd be surprised how often situations occur where two consenting individuals at age 18 or 19 want to go out and their parents forbid it and cops get called and side with the parents. Mostly in less urban areas as one would suspect.

Now, my summing up is obviously VERY brief and not all-encompassing so I'd suggest reading the article I quoted.

To TL;DR it: Age of Consent is 13 in regards to defining statutory rape nationally (higher in almost all prefectures), people under 18 in regards to civil laws are considered minors for the purposes of "unethical relationships" which have pretty wide encompassing definitions and if you're under 20 your parents can tell you you can't date someone legally.

To shorten it even more, Japanese age laws regarding sex and relationships are really dense and weird even to Japanese people.

I believe that 16 is a rarely-used-but-available minimum age of majority (at least in Tokyo prefecture? I admit I haven't done much serious research on it other than info I've picked up over time).

However, even then it needs parental/guardian legal permission or the person being legally-emancipated/otherwise-legally-independent. It's after 18 or 20 (I forget) that that requirement no longer matters.

16? Japan laws?

Possibly the wrong decision in the long run but I know I couldn't have listened to her and done nothing.

If the Japanese government really knows what the Empire has done and has been doing then they won't put up with it long. Coexistence is not possible. So, personally, I'd rather things be sorted out sooner rather than later.

And, If I remember right the Japanese have been working to gain influence and power in the region politically, possibly to gain control of the empire internally or through a coup. With this purge of internal support the Empire have made a chose for the later.

But it has been awhile since I've read most of it so maybe my facts are wrong.
