Description: One day in the 21st century, a gate opened
in the middle of the Ginza district of
Tokyo. Out of the gate poured soldiers and
strange creatures, and they soon made Ginza
look like an image of hell. The gate apparently connected Japan to another world, a world
with a militant empire and many supernatural creatures. The Japanese Self-Defense Force
decided to send a small group, led by a
soldier who's also an otaku, into the other
world on a reconnaissance mission. They're
meant to learn what they can about the empire (and its plans), the world, and the people.

They're hardly in the world yet, though, when
they come across a village destroyed by a
giant fire-breathing dragon. The only survivor
is an unconscious elven girl they find hidden
in a well. Now they feel like they must warn
the nearby towns about the dragon, and do what they can to help. On the way, they'll meet more magical, female companions, and learn more about this dangerous new world.

Poor princess

Spoiler

Oh man, this is amongst the best things I've read in a long time! Kudos to /ak/ for scanlating this and uploaders for putting it here <3

ahhhh! no! Just saw that next chapter won't be until the end of september!

Re-reading through the manga has really motivated me to put forth a request...

...bring back the option to display the LQ translations.  I mean I am not one to begrudge the work of translators, but whoever translated the HQ chapters....holy crud how did you mess it up so badly? Now I don't mean cleaning the RAW's.  That is a difficult job and I understand that, but the translation work?  The LQ's were already translated and QCed.  How can there be so many grammatical errors, typos, and word duplicates when all the hard work in that department was already finished?  It was literally a cut & paste job.

Meh.  Maybe there was some political BS going on between teams and I know nothing, but it is so frustrating to read what essential feels like a hack job when I had already read the LQ awhile ago and really liked it.

P.S.: word duplicate in the latest chapter (what what).  A bit pithy of me but since I am on the subject...

True. I really like the HQ, but the actual TL is less satisfying than the previous versions. Other reasons than thouse which you said are the font (Its one you use for writing an E-Mail and such stuff, but not for Mangas) and the size of it in some situations. I mean, you really cant write it in the same size like the rest of the chapter if someone shouts "fire" as you can see in ch1 page 35. That kills the atmosphere. The LQ version of the other group did in these 2 cases a way better job.

Ok so I just read this, after putting it off (my fragile heart struggles with manga's with a tragedy tag), and man this is a bit of a roller coaster ride for sure. I mean I guess I like it as a whole, the premise of the story is interesting. Right now, for me, while reading this the positives only barely outweigh the negatives. Time will tell if I continue to read.

There are LQ with better translation? Where can I find it? I'd take better translation over the mess /ak/ makes.

Oh, damn, nice, I can't recall at all.  At least he is a big shot

Not just any lord. He's the ruler of Elbe, where the Flame Dragon is and Itami and the girls have gone.

The old man is from chapter 8. He is a lord in the unified kingdom.

Ethernal Slave.... jeah sounds like Marriage.

Kind of...kind of not...

Spoiler

Seems like an antimateriel rifle would be effective against a dragon.

It's already been established that an AMR is about as useful against a flame dragon as a squirt gun against a tank. You need something greater than 30mm or so. Preferably AP.

Seems like an antimateriel rifle would be effective against a dragon.

So I guess that was an engagement of sorts for Rori-chan.  That guy is soo lucky right now.

Oh come on--take a cow, stuff it with C4, no more dragon.  Easy.

Genius!!

*puts cake in range of eyes*

Ah, finally. It is officially a J-RPG. Go defeat that Bahamut.

Suddenly, Solid Snake. Also alliteration.

And yet you completely ignore the parts where the commander and Itami himself admits that killing the dragon is not best idea. Tuka was basically the excuse he was looking for override his logic.

Anyways, I'm giving up on this "conversation." We can get into this when the next release comes out if you care so much, 'cause honestly, I should know better than to take some bait on the internet.

Tuka was not the excuse, she was the final straw. Tuka's situation was extremely similar to his mother's. The reason why Itami hasn't visited his mother yet is because he thought he had failed her. He admitted that it was not the best idea to kill the dragon because of all the legalities and threat to personal safety that came along with it, but he also admitted that he was doing it for himself. FOR HIMSELF. HE'S DOING FOR HIMSELF. He's doing it as penance for not doing anything for his mother by helping Tuka even though it's extremely illogical. It's why he didn't take his squad along and just intended to bring only Tuka at first until all the other fantasy girls wanted to come along. Yao because she felt guilty and responsible, Lelei and Rory because they're friends with Tuka, Rory because she loves Itami. It's just that simple. I cannot believe you had the guts to call this contrived when the freaking author laid it out bare bones for us.

What kind of special child are you to not see that and classify my informative answer as bait?

Yeah I wanna get into this, especially when I see comments like yours that reek of reading non-comprehension.

Of course it's an emotion-driven choice, this was the result of hours of deliberation plus a flashback after all. He's doing it for himself to get peace of mind, he's doing it for Tuka to cure her of her PTSD, he's doing it for the mother he ignored years and years after she went to the mental asylum. Heck it was even foreshadowed way back when the Gate crew was in Japan, when Risa asked him when was he going to see his mother and the MC gave a non-committal reply which means "We'll see." None of which clue the readers in about deliberating because it's the right thing to do.

Read more carefully next time.

waiii~~~
thx for the new chapter. :D

Godspeed Itami.
May your doom be pure bliss~

Yo, spoiler tags for long discussions before you get warned by mods o.o

Oooh, so you wanna get into this?

My problem with this whole entire premise is the MC makes the selfish decision to alleviate his own personal guilt (or itch for heroism) after several chapters of characters going "Yeah, it's not really worth it for us to kill the dragon (but if you ask this crazy mofo, he might just do it for you just cuz)." Hell, even the MC was like "Yeah, I don't want my buddies dying for this shit," at first. It's a costly, emotion driven choice, and for who's sake?.

But of course, he's going to do it and everyone's going with him because Friendship Is Power. -_- And none of the main characters are probably going to die because this is a manga. (I could be wrong.)

I'd rather he not kill the dragon (stick to his guns) or lose the bullshit moral high ground and kill the damned dragon.
