Description: In the early twentieth century, Russo-Japanese War veteran Saichi “Immortal” Sugimoto scratches out a meager existence during the postwar gold rush in the wilderness of Hokkaido. When he stumbles across a map to a fortune in hidden Ainu gold, he sets off on a treacherous quest to find it. But Sugimoto is not the only interested party, and everyone who knows about the gold will kill to possess it! Faced with the harsh conditions of the northern wilderness, ruthless criminals and rogue Japanese soldiers, Sugimoto will need all his skills and luck—and the help of an Ainu girl named Asirpa—to survive.

Haha! Ever lingered too long, too close to the lake in RE4?

On Golden Kamui's case, I'm not sure about boners, but the author must have a deep interest in food.

Not “must have”, “might have”. For all we know his publisher could be the one who advised him to include that. Or a friend. Or a throw of the die. See, this is what bothers me. That you people (styggtuff12 obviously more so than you) seem to believe that the simplest thing in the world is to know all about an author’s personality by casually looking at the themes of his work. Yet that is clearly not the case. There are so many things that influence a writer’s work besides his own preferences. So if you do that anyway you get moronic ideas started like “Stephen King is a sick fuck” which he most definitely is not, judging by everything else.

Oh and styggtuff12, you really need to learn to admit defeat when you are wrong. It’s unhealthy to believe that you’re always right and to be incapable of making concessions.

What the fuck did I just read and why do I have a boner

Look up Ainu fish skin clothing. Tree bark is actually pretty damn normal in comparison.
Ok that happened.

Allow me to make a lyrical re-write.

Then arose the huchen of pet

Came the river-pig in silence,
Of the huchen he was not the largest,
Nor belonged he to the smallest,
Tongue the length of double hatchets,
Teeth as long as fen-rake handles,
Mouth as broad as triple streamlets,
Back as wide as seven sea-boats,
Tried to catch the artful dodger,
Tried to swallow Shiraishi.

Tried to snap the magic blacksmith,
Tried to swallow Ilmarinen.

well dumbass, if the author writes over and over about one thing that isn't important to the plot but a thing a majority of the characters do then its the author that did it.
if a KKK membert writes a comic about hanging black people and the majority of the white people in it start hanging black people, do you not think that the author decided that they should have that characteristic? was it not the author that decided that that specific thing should be done ro said by the characters?
do you honestly think that the author has nothing to do with the characters? that they write themselves? that 100% of what they do is decided by the author?

That's not really an adequate example to prove your point. I understand you're trying to say that the author decides what the characters do and say, but it's also not as if the author HAS to share the same sentiments as every single one of his characters. In your example, the majority of the characters go around hanging black people, but if the author agrees with this or not comes down to the way he frames it: the hanging of a black person can either be treated as a happy or cruel event, and that's what makes the difference.

What if the author who wrote about hanging black people is also a black people? @_@

Would it mean that he is a masochist who like to hanging himself?

This chapter of Escape Master getting eaten was far more amusing than it should have been.

Phew! Shiraishi may be seemingly useless, but he's still our beloved comedian!

Is this the catch of the 2.1 m huchen in 1937? xD (I know time is a different one in the manga)

Dang, that officer guy is seriously wrong in the head ...

So according to your dumb-ass reasoning any author who writes about characters with obsessions must share said obsessions himself? Do you not see how obviously moronic that is? Did you really need to be told that?

The Giant Fish seems to be something like a catfish, an Ainu version of the Goonch (yeah, River Monsters did an japan-centric episode). Hope they elaborate on the next chapter.

I would never know such as this manga talking about, you can make clother from bark of tree? Thanks for translations, very informative manga.

This series just keeps cracking me up

Ha! They catch a mermaid!!

You're overestimating Tsurumi's influence in the 7th. Tsurumi's unit is actually only one company strong, formerly Wada's company (reread Ch. 13). The full 7th is FOUR REGIMENTS strong, plus their own cavalry, artillery, and logistics brigades. It's not like the full 7th is in mutiny.

As for the deserters, they only care about getting the gold. No loyalty to anyone, nor any glorious vision of providing for the 7th. They just want to get rich by leeching off Tsurumi's quest.

I imagine the rest of the 7th will eventually figure it out and just quietly purge Tsurumi's faction from their ranks.

It should be noted that the real 7th was considered one of the best units in the Imperial Japanese Army and provided distinguished service in all fronts up until 1945, when they were disbanded. They specialized in fighting Russians and were the only Japanese formation able to halt the Soviet advance into Japanese-occupied Manchuria, albeit briefly.

You are right, Tsurumi seems like a really capable soldier and leader but his rank and the fact that even among lower ranked soldiers is known that he is distrusted by the top guys makes me think that the leaders of the army didn't left him without supervision, that this rebellion is composed just by his inner circle and subordinates makes much more sense than a liutenant taking control of a whole division. So, so far we have the following groups:

- Sugimoto, Asirpa and Shiraishi

- The old farts from the Shinsengumi and allies

- Tsurumi's rogues
- Deserters from Tsurumi's group, who are most likely independent of the still loyal part of the 7th division
-The rest of the army in Hokkaido that has not rebelled against the goverment, which so far I think that we have not seen except for that colonel (?) that went to apprehend Tsurumi.

Whoever said, that a story composed of conflicting factions instead of just usual good and bad sides is incredible interesting was right, this manga was been an awesome journey.

edit: the guy you mention (Wada) was a captain, I ascended him quite a bit (a lot actually) when I mentioned him above.

So, this group of deserters of the 7th division are a new faction of this conflict or they are still loyal to the goverment (doubtful)?, if they are not loyal to the goverment I guess that at some point the guys in Tokyo will realize that a whole division of the army has gone rogue and they are going to have to send troops to quell that rebelion, adding yet another group to this bloodbath.

Author definitely likes Tarantino movies (watch Reservoir dogs to see what I mean).

I love how they showed the squirrel for absolutely no reason lol

And didn't you miss a joke on pg15? I think he was supposed to say something like "I knew something was up with that nose..." after calling Nikaido's nose a traitor's nose
