Description: The year is 1991 and 6th grader Yaguchi Haruo only has video games to live for. He's not popular in school and he's neither handsome, funny, nice nor even friendly. The only thing he has going for him is that he is good at video games. One day at the local arcade, he plays Oono Akira, a fellow classmate but who's popular, smart, pretty and a rich girl that absolutely destroys him at Street Fighter II. Not only does he lose to her 30 times in a row, he can’t beat her at any game. Haruo can’t seem to shake Akira off as she follows him from arcade to arcade everyday after school and beats him every time. As weird as it sounds, the odd duo begins a strange bond and friendship.

Lol The mom is aware that the clothes she buys for Haruo are lame

Thanks for including the line about the original "mug mugging"! I was actually going to ask about it if that note wasn't there, but it was, and I appreciate it :)

(it was a pretty solid joke translation imo, but I always want to know the original as well)

Wow, that chapter made me laugh a lot. A lot of small but good moments. Of course, a lot of that had to do with good old big sister. The delayed regret on this page killed me: https://bato.to/reader#506e4189966f2db0_12

Also, I do hope Hidaka apologizes for being mean. Haruo might've been pretty stiff about his rejection, but she should consider who he actually likes.

I wonder if Akira would use Mika in SFA3.

Is Shibuya actually considered a dangerous place?

I was about to ask if it was considered a dangerous place at some point...when I was there a few years back, I didn't see any delinquents at the arcades. It was mostly kids like Haruo.

Does the word chemical frighten you? Water is a chemical. Did you mean to specify synthetic chemicals? Many synthetic chemicals regularly save lives. On the point of "dead trees", are you suggesting trees are sentient and thus deserving of sympathy? Please tell me that's the case because it would amuse me greatly. There's still no downside, here.

I love it when people who want to be all superior take refuge in technicalities that are irrelevant to what they know the other person is talking about.  There is a virtue to learning about the relatively broad range of word meanings, some of which are precisely summed up in dictionaries and others of which range somewhere between connotation and denotation, and are understood within certain discourse contexts.

Ergo,

Spoiler

And frankly, you know all this shit perfectly well.  The fact is that this kind of sad attempt to make paying attention to the environment look stupid pretty much requires that the person making it know deep down that he's dead wrong.  Why such a person decides to knowingly make specious arguments can have a number of possible explanations, but none of them involve good faith.

Maybe I miss something here. But as far as I know, everybody of your three MCs got his/her own "Guardian"

But whose "Guardian" pulled him back? It make no sense if it was one of the Girls.

I lol'd with Haruo's new clothes. But now I'm curious... Is Shibuya actually considered a dangerous place?

was

In the 1990s, an area called Shibuya Centre-gai attracted attention as a gathering place for many juvenile delinquents called “teamers” and young girls called “ganguro,” who sported tan makeup, bleached hair and platform shoes.

Akira will probably head to shibuya and straighten out Haruo and beating all the delinquents at games. The sister was hilarious, she got corrupted so fast.

Man, Oono's sister's the best.

Good job on that credit page! I really dig it!

I would like to add to this that if you have something that is not chemical you are probably a quantum or astrophysicist. Things that are not chemicals are usually antimatter or subatomic particles or other exotic matter, since literally everything that can be in a chemical reaction (including everything you're made of) is a chemical.

It's actually refreshing that we finally have a piece of evidence that current-yaguchi has surpassed old-oono in consistency. Now, it was still oono's idea, but that's the difference between creating and executing. Oono is the type of genius who could create the Ken Combo, whereas yaguchi can now at least execute on it well, even if he's less intelligent. (Though I'm sure oono's consistency has gone up since middle school)

i suspect her inconsistency also caused by haruo behind her. in her cold blood mode, im sure she can execute it well.

Came back home from a night of drinking with friends and that first page credits page messed me up.

Found the (failed) attempt while searching for the fight. Dude is so cheap and it's like he's plus on everything.

Arcade gang wars? Awesome. They'll rue the day they betrayed Beastly Fingers Haruo.

No downside to post-it notes?

It's made of dead trees and chemicals.

No downside compared to previous technologies.  I'd have thought that was obvious, I was talking about the transition.  Piece of note paper + some tape also = dead trees and chemicals.

Soooo TOURNAMENT ARC

To be fair, software isn't made of chemicals, but the computers that run it and most anything else you can name is entirely made of chemicals. Also, most of the dead trees involved in making post-its have been planted for the purpose (usually eucalyptus); it's usually never virgin wood — unless Canada has been developing a black-market papermaking industry, the usual suspects (poor, undeveloped countries in the tropical zone) have trees with short fibers which make really sh*tty-quality paper.

So let's give three hurrah's for dead trees and chemicals!

Hurrah!

Hurrah!

Hurrah!

Five stories of arcade games... sounds like a 90's paradise.
