Kawasumi may be blunt and socially awkward when it comes to relationships...but at least he got his friend's back

I found my own "takane no hana"...that Mina girl! <3

I personally if faced with a "friend" like this would give him some pure honesty in the form of "I don't want to ever see or talk to you again unless it starts with your grovelling apology".  Then I'd stick to it; it's never worth letting the a-holes be in your life.

But they're not you. Quiet people are comfortable with being quiet. If one of those two was in a relationship with someone who talked all the time, it would last 3 days and they would break up with the person.

Plus, as someone who's been married for 18 years I can tell you, saying things that don't need to be said can be worse communication than not saying things that do need to be said

Spoiler

Thank you!  As someone who's both quiet and has been married nearly 10 years myself, I wholeheartedly agree!  I typically don't talk a lot, but I enjoy quietly being with those I love, and my husband and family know that and are okay with it.  While honest communication in a relationship is important, that Jerk-sempai overstepped his boundaries.  It'd be one thing if they asked him, "How can we make our relationship better?" and then he answered, but another entirely for him to but in on their private meeting spot (twice, at least), then proceed to but into their romance and tell them what they're doing wrong.  Since both are quiet, one of them typically has to bite the bullet and speak up when something's bothering them, but that's part of their learning process.  We've seen Suiren doing that from the beginning, and Kawasumi doesn't seem to be afraid to speak up when he needs to.

Jerk-sempai saying they'll eventually break up unnecessarily cast doubt in Suiren's mind, too, which could lead to her doing something stupid in an attempt at keeping Kawasumi (can't imagine what, though, since she seems pretty level-headed), or creating some stupid misunderstanding that they then have to clear up.  He's an instigator, stirring up unnecessary trouble, and I hope someone kicks him in the balls. XP

Pure honesty make people look like an a-hole and if Ato helps the MC realize what he's doing, he would thank him.

I had a relationship with someone and we both didn't talk that much to each other, it lasted 3 days and I broke up with the person.  I find it impossible that they have been going out with each other for 3-5 months already.

Ah Atohira. We all know someone like him irl. That one guy or girl who insists on butting into other peoples relationships and acting as if its a menage a trois. As if he is a part of the relationship and his opinion matters. He reminds me of Banky from Chasing Amy. Whether he's right or wrong its none of his business. He shouldn't even have a say in their relationship.

personally, I think Ato's got his head up his own ass. even as a friend, he's overstepping his bounds here. idk he might just be one of those annoying people who don't recognize boundaries and are blissfully unaware of how rude they are. even if he had something to say, this was not the way to do it. the way I see it; he's either just bad at giving advise or making a conscious effort to split them up. either way, I don't like him.

Everyone here who hates Ato is just ignorant.  You guys all see a healthy fluffy relationship between 2 introverts, while I see an obsessive inexperienced, and neglectful guy with a girl who for the first time in her life is experiencing love.

Well you have readers who like fluffy cheesy relationships, you have the handsome guy with the pretty girl.  The End zzzzzzzz

What I'm saying is these two people have a lack of communication and if Ato has to be the bad guy, so be it.  Pure honesty make people look like an a-hole and if Ato helps the MC realize what he's doing, he would thank him.

There's another level this bugs me.  If the setup is supposed to be, this guy is obnoxious but he's saying some truths that needed saying--then what, is the story introducing telepathy?  Let me see.  This guy has now met Suiren a total of twice.  He's never conversed with her.  The male lead has never talked to him about her.  He knows, in fact, nothing whatsoever about her.  It's been years since he even knew the male lead.  He has never seen them together except on these two occasions.  Both times he was doing most of the talking and generally taking up all the oxygen in the room, leaving little opportunity to gain insights into how they normally are together.
So on what basis is he supposed to have come to these confident conclusions about them?  If he's supposed to be right, then it has to be purely by author's fiat just deciding he will miraculously come to the correct conclusion on the basis of one or two glances at a pair of rather opaque people, at least one of whom has been pointedly portrayed as very hard to read.  So yeah, if the manga moves in the direction the pro-Ato people want, I'm going to be cheesed partly just because it makes no bloody sense.

I agree with this...ato is saying some real shit that really will send them into some stupid drama that can EASILY be avoided by not only trusting your partner but not being afraid to say whats on your mind

I'll agree with you this far--Ato is saying some shit that will send them into some stupid drama that could easily have been avoided (if he'd kept his arrogant trap shut). And I'm glad someone said what was on their mind by telling him never to come near Suiren again.

Why does everyone hate the sempai guy, he's the only one getting anything done.  The main guy is dense as hell and needs to be woken up.  He's just taking Suiren's for granted. You just got 2 chapters where Suiren is lamenting about not getting a single phone call the entire break, but cant express herself.

Go Ato, open up Kawasumi's eyes, make him realize that Karate is important, but you cant assume your partner dont have their own insecurities.

Nothing needed to get done.

Spoiler

Even if there were problems in their relationship, and someone who was actually close to them and had the faintest understanding of them saw it and wanted to say something, the way to say it would be exactly the opposite of the way that sonofabitch is saying it, and the person to do it would not be the guy who just broke someone's arm and never apologized.
Spoiler

even if he were dead right and had them dead to rights, again, in the real world what he's doing would lead most introverts to go do exactly the opposite of whatever he was saying because they (we--I'm not as introverted as I once was, but I remember what it's like) HATE HATE HATE having jerks like that loudly tell us what to do.
Your confidence of who's ignorant and your tolerance for that kind of loudmouthed crap makes me wonder if you are not the kind of extrovert who thinks they're doing introverts a favour when you bull into their business uninvited.  If so, you are mistaken.

If dirt-bag boy gets stuck with it, good.

Did they just storm out of there without paying their bill?

If dirt-bag boy gets stuck with it, good.

OK,  ch 43 just makes it worse.  Who the fuck does that asshole think he is?  What the fuck does he know about either of them?  Who asked him?  What makes any of it his fucking business?

Did they just storm out of there without paying their bill?

More like the usual, "You're paying for us, baka~!"

I want to kick Atohira so hard on the face right now

but truth is, I think what he did is necessary for these two to grow.  Hopefully they get past this and become more communicative with each other  :)

I've seen a few comments like this.  But what I saw in ch 42 was Atohira talking on and on about what he assumed Suiren was, or ought to be, thinking--putting words in her mouth and when you think about it, implying that if that wasn't what she was thinking there was something wrong with her.  But if you look at her thought bubbles, what he said was NOT what she was thinking.  He was making her up.

So how is this kind of thing supposed to help communication?

well geez i'm glad her friend at least has some sense ...

I blame Aya out of most people because she's has been by Suiren's side since the beginning and she never urge Suiren to change.

It's hard though, just like Hanayamata, you feel overprotective towards your friend that you lost sight of the possibility of taking her out of her shell because she seems so fragile.
Even more so for Aya who had to make sure to protect her whether she was in a all-girls school or mixed.

I love Aya so much, Suiren is so lucky to have such a great friend like her.

Nah, the dark haired guy was paying for them.

Here is some speculation, they will make it as if he is doing all this to make their relationship stronger, and he is just trying to help them, 'cause he is a great friend, but personally i just think he is a a$$hole, just an a$$hole.

He is just trying to help. If Kawasumi doesn't fix his attitude, it's going to hurt both him and Suiren a lot in the future. Kawasumi's brain is like 99.9% karate and 0.1% Suiren, and it doesn't look like that's going to change without intervention.

Unless these two are the most interesting people ever, or their friends are so engrossed in their lives, I couldn't understand the heavy concern past 'because we're friends'. There's got to be some personal reason for this homeboi to be interjecting, unless he's that bored. Because if not, then he's a flawed character that only serves to accelerate the timeline through direct confrontation, but then that makes him a hurricane, not a person.

Atohira's a bit of a jerk, but he's dead on. I'd say he's speaking from experience. (Or maybe the author is.)

Or... HE'S GOING TO STEAL SUIREN! (Or maybe Kawasumi?)

I want to kick Atohira so hard on the face right now

Though I do miss the super, diabetes-inducing, random fluff, I'd like to see some more character development!
