Description: Kaname Okiura, a student of Prefectoral Umineko Shougyou High ("Umisho" for short), joined the school's swimming club in order to learn how to swim, but the club is filled with weirdos, let alone teaches him swimming. Then, a sunny, happy-go-lucky girl named Amuro Ninagawa who was transferred from Okinawa joined the club. Her extraordinary underwater speed and unorthodox swimming style (plus her personal habit of nude swimming—a powerful magnet to teenage boys) surprised every club member, especially Okiura, because she reminds him of a mermaid-like creature he saw only once in his early childhood.

I stumbled across this in 2011 when I was living in Japan. Since then it's been something of a guilty pleasure. I occasionally revisit the manga. Though the vast middle section tends to go nowhere.

forgot about this :o gonna reread

It's a pretty good manga with very interesting character personalities, which I'd say is the best part of the manga.

The humor isn't lacking at all here with the interactions between characters.

But towards the end there's a clear pacing change after the graduation ceremony.

The ending was decent, but I was looking forward to certain things that just got glazed over at the end. Quite a shame, I can only assume it got sent to the chopping block but I don't know for sure.

Buggs, no offense, but I think people wandering into this manga might get just a tad misled by your saying it has a "good story" when in fact it's almost entirely random. i am a terribly verbose person etc. etc. etc.

i think the word you're looking for is "plot". stories can be good without any coherent plot.

for example, seitokai yakuindomo (assuming you've read it) tells a story about what happens to a constantly tsukkomi'ing MC and his harem-not-harem, but there is absolutely zero plot aside from the introductory first chapter.

all manga series are stories, regardless of plot. and umisho was good. (at least, i thought it was good.) so it's a good story. there we go.

plus, he didn't say it HAD a good story (as you said), he said it WAS a good story. you're the one misleading everyone else.

For the record, Umisho has a beginning which involves tentative start towards romance between the two main characters and the introduction of some mysterious background for the female lead. Then it has a vast middle which involves all kinds of chaotic things happening whose single unifying factor is that you usually get to see cute girls in swimsuits or other skimpy outfits. But it's OK 'cause it's funny. Then there's an end which involves vague attempts to bring the initial romance to some kind of closure, explain the mysterious stuff, and give an idea where the rest of the characters will be going with their lives.

It's a fun little manga with tons of fanservice and often pretty good comedy. But the plot is mainly not the issue. Really, the story often has less direction than "Yotsuba!"
meh the ending could be a little more well made than that, but i like it anyway, reminds me of inu nejo jump (same mangaka).
Oh well that was a refreshing change good story and it has a proper ending not some wishy washy get out!!!
