Damn, this is a beautiful chapter.

As much as I love this manga, I might drop it if that actually happens. If every single character is redeemed after being an antagonist the conflict in the story feels cheap.

Well, this is tagged as shounen. The thing I know about shounen mangas in general is that if there are antagonists, they will be redeemed, or gone in a cartoon-ish manner, or somehow, popped up again.

While I personally won't like it if all the antagonists / villains redeemed, it can't be helped as this is a shounen. If it really happens, for me it doesn't devalue the core story as before I started following, I've been prepare for shounen-ish stories / plots because this piece is tagged as shounen (in fact, I've only recently followed this because of that very tag).

I've just read the whole thing. As a male, I think Hiro is a damn cute especially with how she dealt with her feelings. Actually, I acted like her while reading the whole thing. "Please don't cry, my heart."

That chapter.

Precisely the volume

13.....a universe.

Ahhh still awesome!! Happy to see it back so thanks to the scanlators ^^

Ask and you shall receive.

Well played - I fell for it.

For the love of Talos this needs an anime.

How could I feel goosebumps even tho I didn't hear anything? What kind of sorcery is this?

I feel like in some alternate universe, the math professor and sound kid were the main characters.

Thank God it's back.

Its been awhile.
Here's a Halloween thing from the author's twitter.

Please, THIS need an anime!! T_T

Am I the only one who thinks, that after the issue with Houtsuki's mum is cleared up, we will hear something about Chika's dad? That's been largely ignored uptil now but i'm actually curious to know what Chika could possibly have done, for his father to abadone him. And what about his mum?

Waa, someone also think about this! I am really want to see Chika`s papa, I need another drama arc. In fact we do not know about his parents almost nothing... not a single word about his mother. I'm have the headcanon that Chika grew up only with a father, but he did not pay enough attention to his son. Therefore Chika became a bully... And maybe his father disliked kotos, so he does not care that Chika stays with Gen. But I think that Isaki must communicate with her brother sometimes, huh? But ok, we saw how Chiharu belonged to her own daughter, so who knows... because it can not be that his father not think even single thing about his only one son?

well damn I caught up

Picked this manga up recently and holy God is it amazing. What I want to say has already been said, so I'll say what's on my mind since catching up with the scanlations -

I'm nervous that Himesaka got three full chapters focusing on them during the nationals. First off I didn't find it particularly engaging of a story to make us feel for them (especially when EVERY SCHOOL has a sad story behind them), and secondly that the vast majority of our experiences with their school have painted them to be arrogant haughty brats. Hell even the bit of backstory we get shows them bitching amongst one another, even admitting mutual hatred. To sum it up: I just can't find them likable, yet to have so much time devoted to them really makes me worry they're going to be the winners.

Second - What the hell was up with "And there will also be a special group of mixed players who attend but won't be judged"? It came out of nowhere and feels like a contrived way for the author to either have Takise lose and still have Takezou 'make it to the nationals', or for Takise to win and keep this running cast he's built up over the past couple of competitions. It's not a complete gamebreaker as it still leaves the tension of whether Takise will win or not up in the air, but it did feel pretty forced, which is disappointing considering how well the manga flows.

Those things aside, I love it love it love it. I love these types of stories that have romance as a strong theme but don't let it overtake the plot completely, allowing the characters to focus on their goals and dreams. It's amazing how much stronger your characters and plot become when you weed out the forced drama that's usually accompanied by solely romance-focused stories. Every scene with Takezou/Karusu or Chika/Satowa is a miracle of the universe.

That said, secret OTPs -

Tek(forgot his name damn. He's on the edge of the story always)/Ikasa(Chika's aunt)

Sickly boy/Childhood friend (though his sexuality may be up to question)

Sane/Akira (I loved the imagery of her imagining him being swallowed up by darkness when he was getting aggravated during practice. Even when she was trying to destroy the group she immediately tried to put a halt to the practice right then and there)

Thank you so much for the translations, both Fried Squid Scans and /a/. Can't wait for more.

Waa, I am happy to see that someone ship Saneyasu with Akira too! ♥

No antagonists in sport mangas... what are you on about? Or rather, what are you on? Akira was blatantly an antagonist at her introduction, same goes for Hiro. Hell, easiest and most cartoonish example is the vice-principal who wanted to shut them down at the very start. This manga has had plenty of antagonists to choose from and that's not even including those from the other schools.

Spoiler

I think what he means is that the characters can't be so simply defined as "antagonists" or  more colloquially known as "villains". The point is that they're all complex characters who fluctuate and there is a degree of respect (either presently or eventually gained). Most of the time sports mangas give the chance to "antagonists" to develop beyond the label but there are of course exceptions (by no means within the significant cast though). And just because characters are competing against one another doesn't mean "antagonist." A lot of the times it's "friendly" rivalry. Anyway, in this manga, we see clear cases of redemption. None of whom have returned to their unsportsman ways. We're currently in the midst of granny's transformation. Others may be turned off by this repetition but we have to get over that traditional elitist koto nature because as in all sports mangas, the future is in the youth.

Antagonist? There is no antagonist in this manga, it's not a shonen battle manga but a sport manga. It's her granny, it's not like she was going to let her act like cartoon evil character all along. In what world do you live in order to let your granny alone?
