Two chapters out! It's not even my birthday!

Reading this manga makes me wonder, do Japanese students really take club activities that seriously?

Some do, and some don't. I would imagine that the extracurriculars at more prestigious schools (especially competitive avenues such as bands and orchestras) would have stricter practice requirements and more internally motivated students joining. Talent draws in other talents, after all.

It's the same in America (and most other countries) as well. Of course, this IS a sports manga at heart so it's extra serious ;)

This chapter was quite touching and revealed quite a bit about the struggles and tensions running through the club that previously thought itself invincible. It did a good job of showing the competitive attitude and work ethic that made them champions again and again, and fleshed the group out so as to help us empathize with and understand them a bit better. Especially watching a girl who gave her absolute best, more than anyone else, but wasn't able to make it to the competition team. Her efforts mirror the efforts of many of the characters in Tokise's club, and we've come to empathize strongly with characters like her through them.

So I feel a tiny bit bad about saying this, but thank god that's over with. One chapter isn't anywhere near enough to redeem this team for their attitudes until now, and I'm really not all that interested in wasting more pages trying to make that happen. We can feel sorry and supportive of one or two characters on their team and still want the group as a whole to just go away. On to the next team, please and thank you.

Think about it. The moment Housuki sees her mother in the audience, she's gonna play better than ever. She'll become a god of koto.

Or she'll completely choke.

I know it's the wrong instrument, but all I can hear in my mind when they're playing is the Yoshida Brothers. :\

They're probably going to qualify. They're using Housuki's song after all, which is packed with a lot of feelings. Her mother also is coming to see her. There's no way the author could top this moment if they lost and had to try again later on. It wouldn't have nearly the same emotional punch.

if team goes to national this year, this manga will end fast.

I predict they will lose. 3rd year won't make it to national, instead they will join again in 3rd year preliminiary. It fits shounen more.

Some of them (probably chika, houtsuki and that other 17 string dude) will join mixed team along with Himesaka and that bullied girl (forgot her name)

Or there will be a tie.

Or they will go to national and losing there and try again next year.

YEA< THE NATIONALS> LET"S GO TO THE NATIONALS! YEAAAAAAAH!

Author: yadda-yadda, mixed team.

readers: Wait. What?

That face tho.

Spoiler

I honestly think the mixed team is just a plot device to keep using the most flashed-out characters among those that appeared from all the other schools, while the protagonists qualify. Hard to believe talent-wise, but that's what the setup looks like to me, after all there wouldn't be much of a story left if they fail to qualify. I mean, there could be, but not appropriate for a shounen I would say.

Yup. It's going to be a shame if there's all this build-up only for some of them to go through thanks to a non-judged mixed-team... Even if it's true to life, only mentioning it in the first chapter of the Preliminaries sets it up as a cop-out.

I get that authors feel the need to set the stakes high, and thus typically build stories around nearly-unobtainable goals. But the best writers are able to establish high stakes without writing themselves into a corner. I trust the mangaka to do the right thing and develop a good story without having to rely on the weird compromise of a mixed team.

How's this for a theory:

That mix group thing is scaring me hope what i am thinking is 100% wrong and will go to that other possibility.

I haven't read a series that made me shiver on almost of its every chapter. This is seriously an amazing manga. This series is, without a doubt, will be getting anime adaptation soon enough. I guarantee it! Now, I'm looking forward to the next chapters...

adding some notes. i hope it won't be the type that just to promote the manga. Well, i mean, if this really gets anime adaptation, don't you want too see its ending on anime too?

I started bawling when I read how thankful Chika is, that Granny is still there to watch them. Chika, you're too precious </3

Never take anyone for granted, you never know when you'll see them for the last time...

Hi All, I am the admin of Fried Squid Scans... I am the douche that disappeared and thus stopped scanlating this series and let my team down out of nowhere 6 months ago. I made a full announcement with explanation regarding why on the group's website. It is personal and should be left in my blog; if you were a follower of Fried Squid Scans for this series 6 months ago, I sincerely apologize for my disappearance. For three years, most of you remained great supporters, tolerant of my constant cries for staff and relatively slow speed.

/a/nonymous seriously saved and is saving the day (oh, how much the readership of this awesome series has increased)!! To me, this is what scanlation is about: keeping the scans going for the sake of the manga and community itself instead of some silly intra-scanlation group warfare "claiming" the title.

Thank you, /a/nonymous!!! Keep up the great work!!!

I can finally be one of the readers fanboying over this series for once.

won't lie, i don't care too much about their competitions, i'm mostly here for kurata and, especially, kurusu. I mean, her "resolution" from villain may have been a little hasty for such an exstensive "scheming background" but i just can't hold it against her lol.

So im rereading the series and I find this

that cover is gorgeous ! seriously

FYI, "kono oto tomare" is a play of words on "kono yubi tomare" - "stop by this thumb", a traditional way to gather people around you by their interests, e.g. "Jinja ni ikitai hito wa kono yubi tomare" - "people who want to go to a shrine stop by this thumb" i.e. "come over here".

"Kono Oto Tomare" therefore means "If you're interested in this sound, come here and join".

Every chapters is too damn good, and the feels!! I can't!!

THIS need an anime ASAP!!

Who's that on the cover? The Himesaka girl?

Yes, Its Kazusa-chan ~
