Description: 15 years ago the world discovered magic as well as mythical beings (basically beings from various legends) in another dimension. Humankind learned to summon these dangerous mythical beings and use their power to great effect. 7 countries formed contracts with these "Diva" and gained their alligence as a result. Diva will chose their summoners on their 14th birthday and give them a stigma. Schools have been set up to train summoners and magical swordsman (basically bodyguards that give the summoners time to cast their spell) as a result.

15 years later after the finding of magic Hayashizaki Kazuki is chosen as a summoner and given a stigma to indicate that. This is surprising since males aren't chosen as summoners due to their low amount of mana compared to females. As the first male to be a summoner Kazuki is under a lot of scrutiny by almost everyone.

To complicate matters his sister (who's a magical swordsman) is against him going into summoner school to train there as a summoner. Because summoners and magical swordsman have a cat mouse thing going on where summoners look down on magical swordsman as inferior so his sister naturally is against him going there. She'll stop him even if it means going to war.

Kazuki however is determined to thrive in summoner school and have already determined to give it his all. Even if he's the lowest ranked student (ranked E) and his fellow students intend to demean him he'll prove himself as the strongest summoner.

adaptation of the light novel written by Mihara Mitsuki and illustrated by CHuN

My mind says no to the story but my dick says yes. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This series would have been infinitely better with a MC that was a well devleoped character, instead of being a bland self insert. Hes pretty much cardboard instead of an actual human being. 36 chapters in, and most readers simply do not care about the MC. He could die and 99% of readers would not give a shit. His goals, his friends, his troubles, all of them are pretty much irrelevant and undeveloped, because the series is only about scantily clad girls.

I am pretty sure most readers dont even bother reading anything that comes out of his mouth because, honestly, who cares? Its pretty much the standard harem MC drivel.

>oh noes a hot girl is physically close to me this is bad

>oh noes this opponent is strong

>I should incrase my affection meter with this girl

>We need to save X!

>Huh? You lost me.

>[insert some self-righteous bullshit here]

Thats like 90% of his dialogue and thoughts there.

I cant even remember what his motivation was supposed to be. Something to do about harmony between swordsmanship and magic or something? It is THAT irrelevant.

Most of the girls also have no memorable character traits other than their appearance and near to zero character development other than "this one is a tsundere, this one is the childhood friend, this one is a incestous slut, etc". The swordmanship faculty that wanted to prove they were the equal of the magic faculty is actually better written and I can sympathize with them. Meanwhile, who even remembers what's Kaguya's deal supposed to be? What are her goals/aspirations other than to be the strongest or live up to the family name? At least you can rememeber that Lotte is an outcast that hasnt had a normal life and just wants to survive. You can sympathize with her because she's not even familiar with the concept of friends.

It would also have been better if some effort was used to make the premise less retarded. For example, instead of seducing dozens of girls, it would have been better if it was "get their spirits to acknowledge him" or some such. MC would still need to get close to the girls obviously, but at least the premise would sound less retarded (which is actually important, as you dont want readers facepalming and laughing while trying to read your work).

Its like the difference between the synopsis of Twilight....and what the synopsis would be like if the author didnt give a shit and just wrote a few lines about how this was about her mary sue self insert fantasy.

The character designs and art is really wasted on a shitty author like this. Honestly, i've literally read fanfiction that was better written than this. Zero effort was put into this other than the art. Even Twilight and Eragon had more effort put into them than this, and yes, they are both better written than this. The storyline is a complete mess that shows zero planning other than "okay we need some action scenes for this arc, some ecchi scenes for this arc, so lets come up with some shitty excuse to string them all together".

Kazuki looks older every chapter

Stress will do that to you. Say what you will about this Harem, but Kazuki is working extra hard to keep everybody together and focused.

who the fuck drinks vodka by itself? always with other stuff just for the alcohol...

I do..

albeit I do prefer softer mixed drinks when drinking in bar and shots only time to time.. but when drinking at home or before going to bar i usually drink vodka or jägermeister etc. Cheaper and faster not to mention less time spent in toilet due sheer volume of fluids consumed.

I'm a Prometheus fan and in my opinion, Atlas gets way too much fame, but I would honestly love for him to appear and side with Thor, seeing as how they're both in a bad relationship with their brothers.

Oh yeah, just like those random boss encounter in a musou-game. Now we only need Loki to join to fray to complete the chaos. :D

Ugh, this is going downhill fast... plot's trying way too hard.

Um... how exactly? If anything i say the plot aren't trying hard enough. :P

Can we have an update of the manga as a Christmas present?

Are you serious?

One doesn't just take Nyarlathotep down.

Lovecrafian God "the crawling chaos" reduced to this...

*sigh* here's to another re-reading spree.

But you got my point right?

But yeah, maybe vodka is a tad too strong for my analogy, gonna change it.

Okay, that was probably one of the cutest act of bullying i ever seen. :3

Almost on par with Funabori meme. :P

Just like Importuno said, the very "laws" you talk about here is not the definite laws of the in-manga universe, that "laws" was made by Japan, nothing prevented it from being broken, and it is so fitting that it was actually all the bad kind of gods that are well-known for their meddling and law-breaking feats that breaks this "laws". :)

Yes but the point of what I wrote is that the manga is actually breaking its own universe. It's actually defying the laws it has set forth and established, and completely ignoring when it happens. The explanations you gave are simply assumptions, they have no actual defined evidence in the manga.A deity from everything we have seen so far requires a summoning to be tied to someone. That requires a high amount of mana. How would his father simply become "possessed". The father has low mana, and did not even summon Nyarko? Yet he somehow still came to be inside the father. It's creating its own plotholes without explanation. And your response to your 4th point doesn't really excuse it, there's a reason why people have issues with shounen-action writing.

The page sequence of chapter 34 seems to be wrong.

Hmm just wondering... Are there any other manga or LN that has delved into the Cthulhu/Lovecraftian mythos? Because I can't seem to recall any, as most of it has been western media.

It would interesting to see a Japanese take and interpretation of that mythos.

There is a Light Novel Series which is complete with 4 volumes called Ultimate Antihero. You can read the whole thing on Baka-Tsuki. The MC is contracted with and summons at least 4 different Lovecraft gods (with amazing volume ending effects) over the course of the series. It is really a good series (too short in my opinion) so long as you are fine with completely OP protagonists.

He "claims" he possessed the father. Maybe, and follow me here, just maybe there's another big evil that made the summoning? Maybe the story isn't over and there are more developments to come from a situation that has been around for less than 4 chapters?

The main character is the proof that the gods don't follow the rules as a necessity. The Loki episode, Lotte's contract. The "rules" we've seen were rules imposed by Japan and the Solomon demons themselves to be able to cooperate and work together. Think it like a contracted company for your army. Yes, you have a contract and a deal working for a military defense organization, but nothing stops someone from that company from going rogue, nothing stops different companies to try and take over said company, etc.
