A new chapter this soon? Scanlators, you're spoiling me!

Coconut milk in curry.....

It's basically every southeast Asia style curry.

Also, spiny lobster curry is from India, I think.
As interesting as ever. Thank you.
Aah I was rereading again and this part still makes me laugh.

Spoiler

Oh yes, taste that mysterious magical sauce with all the raw chicken. Hahaha!

"He used coconut milk - I've never heard of adding something like that into curry!"

Say what? That's one of the most common ingredients in curry ever, apart from spices. Have these people never heard of a place called Thailand?

Don't forget the series is from the 80s :) I think international cooking was not quite as ubiquitous as today. Also there are very different "curry cultures" depending on the country. I suppose the author showed an audience that only knew the japanese curries where a lot of people used the premade roux.

oh wow thanks for the update! Time to reread and rewatch this again! :D

While I do agree that "hamburger" oder "hamburger steak" is traditionally defined as meat patty made from minced beef, I think it can be used as synonym for any kind of meatball or meat patty, especially in Japan.

Regarding Shokugeki no Soma, I haven't tried to make any of the recipes in there, but I do remember them having extra recipe pages at the end of each volume. Also, even though things like that vegetable terrine (rather at the beginning) are complicated to make, they should by no means be impossible.

Honestly I have no idea what that other guy is on about.  SnS has plenty of actual recipes you can actually make, and a lot of their dishes are actual dishes, and a lot of the things they talk about are actual things people do in cooking.

It does have a problem where it takes normal cooking techniques and makes them sound like super secrets.... but Mister Ajikko does the =same thing= where some of the solutions he uses are fairly common cooking knowledge, not some esoteric secret that nobody actually knows.

You can't, by the very definition of hamburger steak (aka hamburger) which is made from beef. Not going into why people think that it's American invention when it was known in Europe long time before it came to US.

Another misconception is that high class food is something made from totally exotic and weird ingredients or in a weird way. It's not always true, steak or  are of such examples. This is why Mister Ajikko is so good, it shows that gourmet food is not something out of reach for normal people.

Next is "top-class culinary" as you called "food things" created in SnS. It would be fine if any of authors knew anything about cooking before writing many nonsensical stories. Most of things showed in that manga has so much in common with cooking as Dragonball Z with martial arts. It's pure fiction. This is probably why i don't like SnS. when i see tag "cooking" i assume that i will find interesting ideas about dishes that are possible to make. Not some Toriko with half nude girls and gross oldmen (also nude ;/)

Yep. I see your point here

(...) I don't know if you can make a hamburger with turtle meat but it's commonly used in asian cuisine. (...)

Yeah, sure, hamburger from turtle meat... i like when manga have real recipes (Cooking Dad is perfect example, Addicted to Curry has recipes AND tits) not bullshit their way with mysterious "secred technique" which is actually know to anyone owning proper cooking book.

Here we have same boring development (find rival, copy his food/or not, beat him with brilliant idea) but the dishes are interesting and possible to make without magic.

Mister Ajikko uses basic recipes anyone can make. and the same can be said for Cooking Papa and (to an extend) Addicted to Curry. Shokugeki is set in a top-class culinary academy where people who strive to be the best chefs in the world, it's clearly a completely different concept. and I don't know if you can make a hamburger with turtle meat but it's commonly used in asian cuisine. Also don't think I'm trying to start a flame war or something. I'm just exchanging opinions. I like all those series

Shokugeki no Soma is still a legit cooking manga. Now as for all the reactions and fanservice, the author used to draw hentai before so that kinda rubbed off on him

Ah times when cooking manga were about food not tits.

I feel like someone should ask though: why in the world is the newest chapter showing up out of order on the list of chapters? Very strange...

Thank You everyone for the appreciation. We'll try to continue this manga. Let's hope we don't drop it. * Fingers Crossed *

great, now I'm hungry in the middle of nowhere...

I love this manga, and good on saiko scans for taking a crack at continuing it!

God dammit I'm so hungry now...

MMMMM-MMMMM~ I can almost taste these dishes.

well, in a way, there are pretty much no really 'bad' people in this cooking manga, interestingly enough. Pretty much all of them are merely arrogant good cooks that are willing to acknowledge their overconfidence when beaten by MC over and over again, but I guess it's good that it's rather episodic and each story is pretty much a standalone.

He left the stone in while he sliced them? Why?!

Have anyone actually tried the recipe in the manga?

I have when i watched the anime a few years ago, it does work unlike some things in animes.................namely a pure Yugi deck from Season 1 of Yugioh.............either you have to be really god damn lucky and get dark magician in the first draw or your seriously dead, that deck cannot win.

Mum is a qt 3.14
