I don't really remember it all that much anymore, but:

Another change to the novel, which I'm okay with in this sense as it seems to have sped things along. In the novel, Rudeus is on his way to the guild and sees what he thinks is a kidnapping so he tries to stop him, and it turns out that it's actually Paul and it's not really what he thinks it is. I love this part of Mushoku Tensei. It makes you realize that even though Rudeus may have the intelligence and general mannerisms of an adult, he never matured emotionally due to how detached he was from his family.

i dont know if you read the WN or the LN, but as far as I know, the manga is usually adapting an LN that adapted a WN. so the source material is indeed the LN, not the WN (that all we know, and was translated in bakatsuki)

I mean, I don't know what you expected from the redundancy chapters. The term redundant literally means "unneeded" or "unnecessary." They're just convenient little side chapters focusing around a character's day or other little gimmicks. They aren't meant to be incredibly interesting. I find them to be nice little shorts to read.

I expected nothing of them, but then I read that the author threw in the possibility of fleshing out the Oldeus storyline in one of these redundancy arcs and got mighty excited as a result. That's the kinda shit I wanna read, after all.

I am aware that there being no translations doesn't have to mean that the author stopped working on this,  but given how I can't read Japanese, I couldn't tell whether this project was abandoned by the author or the translation groups respectfully. All I can see is that the translation is at a standstill for quite some time now. All I can hope is that it's not the author who has given up on this.

I agree that the end of the WN was really, really bland and felt somewhat rushed. It's a shame he ran out of ideas, but if it was true that Rudeus' story was meant to be nothing but a prequel all along and merely got written out that much due to popularity, I guess we should be happy we got even that. It was a marvelous achievement of the author to expand this so greatly despite him having had no plans for it when he had started the story.

However, I really miss this story, universe and characters, so I would really  love for it to return sooner than later. Preferably with either the long awaited sequel or some actually interesting Redundancy chaps for once. Since, let's be honest, the majority of them so far had been rather...meh. I am also not too sure about Jobless Oblige yet.

Nobody translating it doesn't mean the author didn't writing them though. Granted, I wouldn't count those redundancy chapters as a proper sequel anyway. May be he have yet to get any idea for such sequel ? Better taking time with good story rather than rushing bad one anyway. I can see in later volumes that the author was at his wit end and decided to just end it there. Understandable decision imo.

AAAAH FUCK

right at the best part! damnit

I tried the web novel and couldn't stick with it after 106 chapters, is the manga similar or does it have different strengths?

If you don't like WN, you won't like the manga. However, I would say this manga adaptation is pretty good compare to majority of WN adaptation manga. It can to stand on it's own as a manga. Most other such manga feel like you are reading novel summary with some pictures in tow.

If you are wondering why this novel is popular in the first place, I could give you a few reason.

1. It is among the first of it's kind. The one that popularize this genre and spawn numerous clones.

2. It can stand on it's own as a novel. Removing reincarnation bits and you still have a pretty good fantasy story.

3. It's a harem story that actually goes somewhere all the way from marriages to having kids.

I am checking the Baka-Tsuki page for MT regularly and haven't seen any updates in a while. If you have a more reliable source for me to check, please do share it with me.

Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man. I don't know what you are expecting of a story, but in my opinion, MT does it right.

Correct. it is my opinion, and I'm sure some share it while some don't, It is a great story, and I like it for what it is, but like everything else, that doesn't exempt it from criticism, I mean, this is the internet after all~

I don't know if this helps, but a bunch of other Translators did some of MT Redundancy: http://www.novelupdates.com/series/mushoku-tensei-redundancy/

I did say (besides Eris).............

Tragedy may be an effective tool for character devlopment, but it's an overused method (that's all modern television is anymore) and I'm tired of it, in fact, that's probably why OP protagonists appeal to so many people now.

I don't need drama or tragedy to build sympathy and be entertained by a character anyway.

ch 33 got a double upload. someone needs to take the duplicate down...

Ehh. You might be right but I probably should have phrased that better.

It's the same as far as I can tell, but It skips a lot of stuff, that's probably more because it's a manga than anything else though, and the art isn't completely horrid compared to the LN Illustrations.

I don't think you'll be satisfied with any answers if you have to ask that........

Why is this series popular?

Hello there, newfriend.

Why is this series popular?

Tragedies are what make stories interesting and let yourself get attached to the characters.

If everything was just happy-go-lucky, you wouldn't have to read about it because there is no doubt about everything ending in a good way anyway

with tragedies, though, you really feel for the characters and cheer them on. Hoping that they would overcome their hardships or at least won't end up in a worse situation.

The way this story was written made me care about far more characters than a normal Japanese work tends to. Granted, it made me hate more people, too, but that's also fine. As long as there are characters to love and hate, a story is successful. The only failure as a character is the one you don't give a damn about. Mushoku Tensei has few of those and only because there are so many characters that you automatically end up with some that won't be interesting.

Still wonder what happened to the sequel, though. The author ended the WN in a way that suggested there to be more, but nothing ever happened.

And Eris isn't the Loli. Roxy is. Unless you mean everyone besides Eris being a loli, in which case you will just have to wait for more characters to appear

Oh god, heart break incoming

I love this series so much, but there's too many tragedies and lolis involved (besides Eris) in it............

I don't like this change though. I don't know if it is LN thing or manga thing. But it remove an ugly part of the story. The kidnapping is used to show that not all victims of teleportation disaster are as lucky as Rudeus. It is prelude of what's about to come next. Granted, they may have Paul rant about it directly to Rudeus next chapter. However, I doubt it will feel as natural as how WN did.

Do we get 1 chapter per 2 months or what is going on?

What is going on is that we need redrawers if you want you can apply.
