Description: A tranquil tale about two boys from very different upbringings. On one hand you have Kai, born as the son of a prostitute, who's been playing the abandoned piano in the forest near his home ever since he was young. And on the other you have Syuhei, practically breast-fed by the piano as the son of a family of prestigious pianists. Yet it is their common bond with the piano that eventually intertwines their paths in life.

Piano no Mori won a Grand Prize from 2008 [12th] Japan Media Arts Festival.

My condolences. I hope you and your family are okay.

Please rest assured- This manga wouldn't attract people who would get antsy/angry at delays anyway. Please take all the time you need.

Thank you for being so understanding T_T

And here's my favourite version of La Campanella, performed by Yundi Li (x). I also love Seong-Jin Cho's playing (x). You can really hear the bells. But sadly the last part is a bit too messy for my taste.

Sorry folks I've been busy the last couple of days with family reunions and a funeral and I just got off the plane back home so Chapter 235 will have to wait till next week. Sorry for the repeated delays orz

So there WAS some extra pressure on Weber to make Lech win.

I really like the insight into why so many people believed Kai couldn't win.

It wasn't just misguided nationalism or favourism (or stupidity with Amamiya Sr.). Not entirely at least and that makes me appreciate what happened even more.

Thank you Eg-Scans. May your Tim Tams be bountiful, Kusunoki. :)

Lot's of weird arms this chapter. Allegra looks like a mutant on p31 lol.
Still a great chapter which actually highlights the purpose of these competitions. Thanks

Never thought of it that way too, but it certainly makes senses. Competition like the voice, American idol and the like are only as good as how their winner do in the industry later. Their success would definitely attract more interest to the competition itself, be it from viewers, better pool of contestant, and of course sponsors.

Sadly, that is not universally true; Probably the prime example is "America's Next Top Model," which the majority of the winners and finalists actual fail to remain in the industry despite the show itself already reaching 20+ seasons, to quote:

“Mentally, it’s horrific. And any girl who has been on ANTM can back me up. No one wants to take us serious as models... The fashion industry had NO idea how to market us. Our agents, our managers... We became instant celebs, but had the portfolio of a rookie model. Even though we just were named ‘TOP,’ our place in line at Fashion World was at the bottom. The industry many times didn’t care about our name, but did turn a snobby cheek to the name ANTM.”

Sad but true, even though in academic music (wrongly called classical) it doesn't quite work that way. After a certain age, a lot of pianists are deemed unmarketable unless they are either extremely talented, or a very well-known name in the world of music.

A good example of this is Jon Nakamatsu. He won the Van Cliburn competition many years ago, but besides that, he's been relatively obscure.

When it comes to pianists, people want something flashy, but combining that with technique is hard.

A competition will lose its reputation if it cannot produce stars. I never thought of it that way, its quite interesting.

There is no better compliment for a translator. Thank you very much :")

P.S. My love for Wei Pang is going off the chart.

You're most certainly welcome!

Papa Amamiya completely missing the point, as usual. No surprise there... and some mitigation for the judges. Hmmmm this is looking good and ready for the next stage!

Funny. The committee awarded two 3rd places despite Lech being forth (based on the score).

EGS, you really outdid yourselves with the translation of that interview. It felt like a musicologist had written it.

EGS, you really outdid yourselves with the translation of that interview. It felt like a musicologist had written it. Brought a huge, goofy grin to my face. Also, I'm glad that things went on without a hitch.

What makes me sad, though, is that this is the last volume in the series. I'm going to miss waiting every week for a new chapter. Thank you, EGS. You guys are fantastic.

Fucking bureaucrats always trying to screw things up.

It isn't a japanese manga if it doesn't make a political statement on perceived corruption of chinese government. *sigh*

Spoiler

just look at it as individual level, weipang is chinese himself, but he was honorable and have sportsmanship. the one being arse is  kong .

and if we take it at country scale level, even poland also pulled few strings  here and there. So i could say it was pretty even.

..Or just take it as a fiction manga and dont take it seriously

Spoiler

Ok, so Kai won almost all the special prizes but the result was still that close? Wow.

Wei Pang is really damn good as well.

Also him and Kai smoked the rest of the competitors. I mean, look at that gap between them and the rest.

Truly outstanding.

Also Amamiya Senior...please do not ever join a competition as a judge or become a critic.

I'd add never become a dad but you've never really been one.

Thanks EG-Scans for this. Really made my day. May the Tim Tams be with you, Kusunoki.

Can't tell you guys how many times I've reread the last two chapters in sheer joy. Everything about them was just brilliant.

Had tears in my eyes when they started singing Sto Lat.

They'll somehow drag out the next reveal over two chapters I'm sure >.<

I'm thinking three, minimum. Maybe they'll throw in a flashback, just for good measure.

*cough*

Anyone else have tears in their eyes?? Cause i have a flood building up here!! :')

Another PSA: Terribly sorry but this week's chapter will have to be delayed again. Please bear with it even though I know it's really frustrating when we're at such an awful cliffhanger right now 'cause you really only have two options:
1. Get a badly translated chapter on time and have the translator die from sleep deprivation, or
2. Get a reasonably well translated chapter late but the translator will at least survive long enough to complete the rest of the series.

It's okay. Take your time, and make sure to rest well. Nothing good comes out from a rushed things. Thank you very much for all the hard work put by everyone into this magnificent piece.

WHOOP! WHOOP! WHOOP! :D
