Looking to turn his life around, he desperately uses an ancestral artifact passed down in his family for generations: a scroll that is capable of subduing all demons. However, in the modern age it has a different effect—it makes all bad girls fall in love with him.

Huh, I guess giving a several chapters of never-surrender-fight somehow makes it more believable.

That looks like a fight between junkies.. frikking zombie squad.

Douji has been

Spoiler

Something tells me that she's not protecting the bad guy, she just wants Rokudou to stop fighting.

It’s not that, it’s the fact that she was easily minipulated by a cowardly guy who openly admitted and practely explained why in front of her, why he’s using her. I use to look up to Ranna as if she was the badass indestrutable female lead, but now it all went downhill and it’s all because the author wanted the MC to show a little backbone.

Honestly this arc has drawn on for way too long.

Dont worry, next chapter are final conclusion.

the one who got beaten up actually winning

Except none of those were characterized as someone who was weak and afraid of stronger people so he surrounded himself with strong people. Didn't you read the chapter where they show you Douji's backstory? He was a bullied weakling like Rokudou who found out that if he surrounded himself with strong people then he wouldn't be bullied, to the point he was shown to be terrified of that fat bully once he was alone again. He was meant to be the kind of villain who uses his brain and manipulates those around him, not the type of villain that is strong enough to deal with everything by himself.

That's my issue: Douji's entire motivation for doing what he is doing is that he is weak and wants someone to protect him, but as it turns up he is strong enough to face a group with people like Osanada and Inuma (who were shown to be pretty strong) by himself, which makes his entire motivation stupid and pointless. The author basically shat in his previous characterization just to he could have a cliche fight against the powerful main villain.

Well, i think the point is to show the irony and how frail is his mental is. The bullying he got in past lower his self-esteem and the method he uses to get around it doesn't help much either, if not making it worse.

It also serves as anti-thesis to Rokudou, Unlike Douji Rokudou is a weakling, unlike Douji Rokudou didn't manipulate people for his own gain, and unlike Douji Rokudou no longer has Ranna on his side, and yet he still stand up and overcame his fear, something Douji unable to do despite all he has.

I do think think there is lack of build up of Douji being this strong though but I can see author did this on purpose just so that the plot twist can be really surprising.

Are you new to... fiction in general?

Big Bad is always stronger than his minions, often stronger than all of them combined.

"Why does Frieza need men, he can wipe out galaxies by himself!"

"Why does Sauron need an army, he can destroy armies on his own!"

"Why does Voldemort need followers, he's pretty much unstoppable!"

"Why does insert-villain-here have servants, if they're all weaker than him even combined?"

Guys, please wait until the next chapter before overreacting. It won't take that long to release, I promise.

BOOM! SURPRISE NTR

This is getting better by the second

I don't get it. Why did Douji need all his minions when he is apparently stronger than them combined? Why was he afraid of that bully dude when he is this strong? Ir's kind of dumb to have a character who surrounds himself with strong people because he is afraid but then turns up to be stronger than the people he was using for protection.

well  he is controling. That spell he have does it,he actually control ppl. aaaaand about the better life, im not sure about that... probabbly just better school time at most.

It doesn't control them, it makes him appear as their ideal man. Emphasis on Iinuma's girlfriend quickly getting over her wee crush on Rokudou.

Well this has the potential to be a disappointing development.

Its not.
That legendary cliffhanger

Rokudou and His friend like a undead,

Obviously it's mean to look like she's defending Douchebag McEdgelord over there, but I'm betting this is just her getting him to stop fighting because she knows he doesn't want to. She may, or may not, beat the shit out of the guy herself.

"I still have plenty of teeth left" tells me that if Rokudou ever actually learned how to fight, he'd be goddamn unstoppable.

Well this has the potential to be a disappointing development.

True disappointment can be found on the Real Heroine board. Also hilarity.

Meh, my opinion of Ranna plummeted during this arc.

yeah... She had the potential to be an outcast who was only ever good at fighting, so that's what she did. But somewhere we'd find her actual motivations. Then this arc came and it turned her into a mindless, near-killing machine. The only spark of humanity is apparently not beating someone with a wooden sword.

In my opinion, the thing is that we know nothing about Ranna or her background and that arc just underlined that matter. Also, we are getting the mixed signs.

She loves violence, but she didn't attack the police or someone weak, just deliquents. She is a badass, but doesn't know the meaning of basic words like compasion. It seems that she was molded into the perfect warrior by someone and released into the wide world without giving her any instructions.

I agree on the police... but as far as attacking the weak, she might just be that she's not an indiscriminate sadist. She wants a fight and normal people wouldn't give her that.

So far this arc has made her a boring, terrible character. but hopefully that means a more compelling turnaround.

This. It's been going on for too long, not feeling any of this anymore.
