Rose Guns Days - Season 1

Alt Names:
Author: Ryukishi07
Artist: Souichirou
Genres: Action ActionComedy ComedyDrama DramaPsychological PsychologicalRomance RomanceShounen ShounenTragedy Tragedy
Type: Manga (Japanese)
Status: Complete
Description: In 1944, Japan was destroyed by an unprecedented disaster, which immediately put an end to the war.

Devastated in the aftermath of defeat, the Japanese government complies with the Allies’ reconstruction plan and the country begins to recover from the loss after a few years, but America and China intricately divide the nation on a municipal level. Eventually, China’s military districts become Chinatowns, and places controlled by the United States are Americanized. The many Chinese and American immigrants make Japanese people the minority in Tokyo.

In Tokyo's City 23, a girl named Rose Haibara, who leads the Club Primavera, an establishment for ladies of the night, one day meets with Leo Shishigami, a laid back repatriated soldier with nowhere to go. There begins the story of Rose's determination to help her countrymen in need with Leo's support.

what's with the high group turnover for this series?

LOL, who added "smut" to the genres?

Hey, there is a non-explicit sex scene between Caleb and Amanda in chapter 10, that totally counts!

Lol, GDAFF and us released chapter 12 almost simultaneously. XD

Love that extra-scene with Miguel. <3

Boy, having read the raws, the Season 1 manga really has a lot of alterations from the VN, but those changes are pretty awesome. And one scene I particularly hated was removed, thank god. Can't wait to be there. \o\

… Which, if what I heard is correct (saw it in some documentary I think?), is actually one of the reasons the Americans used the Bomb − to end the war before the Soviets had the time to make their move.

Yeah, they wanted to end the war with Japan before the Soviets entered the war with Japan because America feared that the Soviets would do to Japan what they did to Europe: turn it Communist.

American might rethink that if the Soviet landed on the "Home islands" (I think I read somewhere the Soviet had plan to land on Hokkaido)

The US would NEVER NEVER let China have a hand at anything like this. FFS a few generations earlier the West was busy dividing up the south China sea among asian nations that were completely dominated by the west.

difficult to explain but japanese's has a deeply ingrained philosophy that everything is one's own fault. So of course they would never blame outside forces for any hardships that they are going through. But that does not mean they don't wish to "fight back" against those forces. They also strongly believe they should never trouble people around them or do anything that causes trouble to people around them. So in essence they believe japan is full of cowards, but also believe the correct answer isn't to be an extremist terrorist which brings about trouble to their fellow countrymen. There is a third answer somewhere that hasn't been found yet.

Though they would be totally fine with either:

A. God came and totally wiped out america on his own whim.

or

B. America never infected japan with their philosophies/people.

So yes japanese people and this manga doesn't hate america. But that doesn't stop them wishing America never existed.

So it's complicated. Sigh the difficulties of the indecisive.

Rooooosee! T.T

that tranny needs gots to go...

I take it back. The manga actually rushed quite a few things.

Skipped Leo - Alfred duel

Skipped the pasta party

Skipped the build up between Leo and Caleb

Its not terribly bad or anything, still a shame though since I looked forward to those scenes.

Dunno, apart from maybe the last one, none of this was really that important. I'm rather glad the Leo-Alfred duel was scrapped actually. I always found that scene superflous, and it added to Leo's sueishness, which was the last thing he needed. :\

Is someone going misty-eyed over the good old days Western Imperialism and dominion over the entire world?

No, MrPoogly was just making a legitimate point about the post-WWII power structure. It would make more sense for Japan to be divided up by the US and Russia, the way those two countries split both Germany and Korea into two parts, because the US and Russia were the countries that emerged as the major powers after the war.

However, this is a historical AU so presumably there is some reason that China became more powerful in this timeline that the author hasn't gotten around to mentioning yet. Authors can do whatever they want in AUs.

Isn't Phillip Butler's name supposed to be Phillip Battler? At least, that's what I thought given Rose Gun Day's TvTropes entry.

What do you mean his TV Tropes entry? He's written Butler there too… the official site writes it Butler, so it's Butler. :þ His appearance and name are just a joke from the author.

And yes, the Afred arc is just the introduction, the real story begins after that. Also note that the Season 1 manga covers the entire 1947 part, so it includes the first half of the Season 2 VN.

I have a question regarding the game, the season one covers only alfred arc? or goes beyond this one (continuation)?

It goes beyond, after Alfred dies(fall from a building) new bad guys appear.

Weird that the guy (Forgot the name) appeared on the second cover. There is like 2 arcs before he appears.

I hope this won't mean things will get rushed (Doesn't seem like it though)

Miguel is introduced a little earlier in the manga. That, and the whole pre-Caleb part of Season 1 is abridged quite a bit, which is really not a bad thing.

I love that scene with Meryl for some reason…

It's fortunate chapter 5 doesn't have any double pages, we're in a serious shortage of redrawers here. --'.`--

Some nationalities are so spoiled. I'd be thrilled to find a manga where Canadians were the bad guys.  Or, you know, mentioned at all really.

Deer Gun Mounties. Someone go make this manga now!!

....and make sure all the characters end their sentences with "eh?"

Yay! One volume down and 3 more to go!

The Alfred arc is over so let’s see what chapter 2 (since that’s how the arcs are divided, somehow) will bring to us!!

By the way, Stella is my new waifu.

Pizza delivery incoming.
