Hello guys. Just wanted to add my piece here.

Anyway. We have no enough information on the actual content of Rizu's answer on the exam.
What do we know is that:
-1st half -> was expected by Nariyuki
-2nd half -> surprise questions

-Then we also have the information that Rizu memorized the expected 1st half. Nariyuki just added the cross-reading technique for her to use as reference next time.

-There is no information of the answers she got randomly/from cross-reading was shown
-It was not stated that her random answers were correct

With these, I think we can safely say that her score would be around average purely from the 1st half. Then adding some vague number of the answers she got on the cross-reading technique. I say it's quite reasonable for her to achieve the score.

Did she improve?
Yes, but only by the cross-reading technique, she just brute force'd her way into the 1st half

Did she got the score purely by luck?
I don't think so, she did MEMORIZE the expected 1st half

EDIT: Fine details/grammar

long winded text

it makes me happy seeing people with so much enthusiasm, but there's no need for everyone to be so spicy here.

Er, no. Did you even read it? Ogata scored the average (which was necessary to continue the series) by picking random answers, which means the hurdle was cleared by sheer luck and she didn't improve at all. No progress was made, the plot hasn't moved an inch. It's like having a major villain show up in a battle mango, kick the hero's ass and then die of a heart attack. "You made it, champ!" What was the point?

You are correct on the luck part, I missed that random answers bubble, but to be fair, she didn't guess because she didn't improve at all. She guessed because she run out of time, so she had to be fast. It's not like she was sitting over the test and was like "I dont have a clue about what to do at all, so I just pick something in the last minute. What a great masterplan!" And I said afterwards, that even if she took the bullet, I doubt anything would have happened that seriously moved or changed how the story is presented. Nariyuki is the male protagonist and the story just don't change it's premise about him having to tutor the girls in 8 chapters.

Regarding the length of the manga, Assassination Classroom had a 1 year goal to achieve and ended nicely in 180 chapters, without much or any stretching in my opinion. So if Naruyuki has half a year, and if the manga remains popular, you can easily expect close to a 100 chapters. And if you take the possible romance into the picture, you have 3 characters that are starting from zero: Nariyuki, Rizu and Fumino. Nisekoi is brought up a lot, so in comparison, only Chitoge needed to start developing feelings for someone, excluding Tsugumi who was irrelevant, and it took Chitoge 50 chapters to realize her feelings, meanwhile Raku, Onodera and Marika all started with feelings for someone. Obviously, each mangaka has their own pacing, but you can expect quite a lot more chapters from the series, if we take these factors into account. It's may or may not fit for long serialization, but that's WSJ for you. If it's popular, stretch it while you can.

If you want something to end quickly then you don't get any enjoyment from it, might as well stop reading it instead of crying about it in the comment section whenever a new chapter comes out

Great, the "if you don't like it don't read it" card.

When did I ever say I want this to be done with and don't get any enjoyment from reading it? I didn't like how this chapter turned out, should I time travel and tell my past self to drop this before I read it and (god forbid) share my opinion on how it could've been improved? How about you don't read the comments if you can't stand the slightest criticism?

Some concepts just aren't fit for long serializations. Here we have a series where the deadline for the characters is what, six months away? How many chapters can you cram into this time period? Can the author really waste big events like the midterms by having the girls dodge the bullet while making no progress towards solving their problems? I don't think so... unless the big idea is just that, ending the series with them just as bad at their choice subjects as they are now but having them succeed anyway by accident. Let me tell you, that would be a pretty disappointing ending.

How would the plot move forward, if Rizu and/or Fumino fail to score the avarage?

Having her clear the midterm goal while staying just as inept at humanities as ever is just pointlessly stretching the plot. And I bet it's going to be the same with Furuhashi. "Oops, dropped my pencil and it fell tip-first on all the right answers!"

I find it pretty funny that literature-girl straight up took a blanket with herself to school. derp.

I'll be blunt, but that's a blatantly stupid remark. For an instance, your opinion doesn't work if you say: "I want this short-story to last forever, if you don't feel like that it means you hate it". A short story was built to be short. It cannot be stretched. You can take ideas from it, and rebuild it, but you cannot make a long story from the existing short story. It has a clear start, middle, and end, within a set time frame. That's how some stories are built, and a manga's life-span is also influenced by the industry / audience whimsy. Your opinion is pretty childish, peep.
What I will agree with, is if some people constantly complain about the same thing, yet return to read some more...Yeah, better just call it quits, or take a break from the story.

Next week Fumino takes the test half-dazed from her cold and also gets a decent score by pure chance. Crisis averted, plot didn't budge.

Sigh.

How would the plot move forward, if Rizu and/or Fumino fail to score the avarage?
Bitch tutor obviously would say that she was right and it's time to remove Nariyuki from the tutor position, then the girls would step in to protest and give a life speech about how studying is so fun with Nariyuki, they were never this good before and they refuse to take another tutor. Principal leaves Nariyuki in the tutor position, bitch tutor becomes angry. Nothing would happen, except for a fake drama, that quickly resolves. How is that better than seeing the girls improving, or counts as plot progression? And why score by pure chance? Pure chance would be showing nothing of their studies and study methods, only conveying messages like "Do your best! I think we practiced enough." The readers at least have concrete evidence about how they are improving.

Would you rather see a thin concept being stretched on and on with no resolution in sight and end out of the blue because readers got fed up with it going nowhere for a thousand chapters, or progressing naturally through a well-planned lifespan and ending with no loose plot threads? Those Bleach and Nisekoi endings sure are fan favourites.

I know right? They should overcome their troubles in 8 chapters and the manga should end in two volumes!

My thought process while reading the last couple of pages.

"Oh nice, she actually improved. The plot moved forward! Maybe for once I'll see a rom-com mango that doesn't pad things out as much as possible, introduces a dozen different girls, goes nowhere for a billion chapters and panic-finishes in the most boring way possible when it's in danger of being cancelled. Good on you, auth-- aaaaaaand she just lucked out. Of course."

FIGHTO!!!

Right on the money sir. I tip my hat to you.

Love the subtle reference to Esprit on page 7

By the by, for those that are curious, the game Tragedy Looper (惨劇RoopeR, for those that want the original Japanese name), that they're discussing is a real game, and pretty fun :D. It is a game that pits one player against all, where a "mastermind" attempts to cause a tragedy to occur against the best efforts of the "loopers".

The game focuses on deductive elements and hidden roles, similar to games such as Werewolf or Town of Salem. The unique aspect of this game is probably the fact that the "loopers" begin the game with 0 information, and thus will likely end up failing miserably. This is fine however, as whenever a  loss condition is fulfilled, the "loopers" "rewind time" to the beginning of the scenario, where they use whatever information they accrued in the previous "loop" to attempt to stop the tragedy anew.

It's quite a fun and tense game that works best with 4 players, and I recommend it if pumping syringes filled with adrenaline is your idea of a good time. It's also readily available in English (along with most of its expansions), so check it out if you're interested.~ Here's the box art for the English version, for those that are curious:
