Manga ended with 4th volume (22 chapters)

So I guess that means the scanlators dropped it? That sucks, because this was really good... -_-

So did the translator drop the manga or hiatus?

And she is playing and winning with crappy cards with too big mana (material in this case) costs everyone is surprised of seeing of because she has no money for better ones. If she gets the most expensive ones we will see her pulling the impossible.

Again, this makes the story for me, since she is wiping the floor with everybody using those crappy cards. This shows true skill and thought vs just hammering her opponent with whatever she bought. Imagine if all players had to use the same decks and sideboards. Manaka would rape and rekt all of them without even trying.

And I managed to catch up. Story's really compelling, a contrast to bonnouji's light hearted romance.

Anyway, why the fuck are they gloomy? Using your opponent's win condition against them is one of the most romantic wins I can ever imagine. Brings be back to yugioh days when I'd man up and use change of heart only to attack then on main phase2, sacrifice his 7* monster to summon an inferior one of my choice. But that move's even greater. Its like having 4 pieces of exodia and the enemy has the last piece and you stole it, getting the instant win condition. That's an applause-worthy move God damn it!

If you don't understand the context of this world, imagine a good player playing going against an AI.

If they win, then they beat the AI.

If they lose, it may be due to RNG or the AI is too good.

One of the things that the Author emphasizes is that she does not convey a personality during a match, so she is unpopular to watch. If you ever watched Hearthstone without knowing either player, it is boring as hell.

Even if she was malevolent, shitty BMing player, that is the role and personality of a villain, and their matches will be exciting to watch. All her actions and words are methodical, her deck is not fun to play against, and she doesn't have a following either.

Seriously, that was a hype way to win, but the reason it's so gloomy is entirely Manaka's fault.

I mean seriously, she pulls that off and what's the face she gives?  She looks like she just swallowed a sour candy after stepping on a puppy.  If she had smiled or fist-pumped or done anything to show a positive interpretation of the win then everyone else would have reacted to that, but no, she glowers like she saw something unpleasant.

Negativity breeds negativity, and humans react to social cues.  If you wear on your face that you aren't enjoying yourself, then people around you will pick up on that, and if you wear a face of disappointment after an awesome play like that then it's going to befuddle and confuse everyone else around you.

You're absolutely right, but that gloom is Manaka's character. These games aren't fun for her, those wins aren't glorious for her, it's just constant reminders of the last days of her mother's life and death. This aspect of the MC really makes this story for me. That tourney is mental torture for her, yet she sacks up and does it for her family, even knowing that every win makes her look like the devil incarnate for her play style.

Merciless, dominating and with an exceptional taste for cruelty. Boy, she is a trained sadist!

Welp, step on me more, Manaka-sama!

That top deck is godly.

I mean the story makes her style out to be "boring" to watch, but if she can turn tables like that as frequently as she does, who the hell thinks that's boring?

Well if you watched mtg legacy coverage it's probably a bit like watching Miracles which in my opinion is horribly boring. If you don't know the deck it's a control deck based around a large amount of draw fixing with cantrips, brainstorm(draw 3 put 2 back) and sensei's diving top (look at top 3 put them back in any order, tap to draw and put the diving top on the top of your library). Combined with "miracle" spells which you can play for a massive discount when you draw them and "counterbalance" a card that counters any opposing spell if it's the same mana cost as the top card of your library.

Usualy matches with this deck end up with some horribly long gameswhere not much really happens and a semi common tactic is basicly forcing the first game to go for ~40 minutes while keeping their win spell on the top of their library  for the last 20 just to make sure they can win the match 1-0-1 with the common 50 minute clock.

But that's just my opinion of the deck some enjoy it as it can be very challenging to pilot correctly and it's probably more fun to watch if you know the deck. But when all you see is, brainstorm, fetch, ponder shuffle, activate top, brainstorm, fetch, activate top, terminus, repeat x3 activate top, miracle outentreat the angels every game you get a little bored.

I don't even think I'd be pissed from getting my combo jacked like that. I'd just be impressed.

Nobody says you can't be both. Although to be honest I didn't expect Roman to be this gloomy about it; according to her profile she's a die-hard combo player who lives for flashy wins, and it doesn't get any flashier or more combo-riffic than what we just saw.

I mean the story makes her style out to be "boring" to watch, but if she can turn tables like that as frequently as she does, who the hell thinks that's boring?

As someone who plays video games competitively, I'm sure what she does is boring to watch, or comes off as purely mean-spirited to people who don't truly grasp the nature of competition. I play fighting games, and the kind of reactions I get from more casual players is that what I'm doing is "cheap" or "disrespectful" or sometimes just plan "boring to look at", but the truth is it's just the best way to win, and anyone that does get that tends to appreciates the level of skill required. And then some of them just want the underdog to win and hate the better player. So to me, this is generally pretty plausible.

wtf is wrong with the people watching those matches? how can they be so gloom after seeing a comeback that skillfuly done? that was almost as awesome as the comeback from Daigo in Evo 2004 (SF) i will be hyping so hard if i see a comeback that great in any kind of tournament.

Everyone is negative about her play style "just because" the author made it that way. There's no rhyme or reason for it to legitimately be like that, and I do feel like it's a bit of a negative on the series as a result. I understood the groupies for her friend being mad the way she took his points, but random bystanders aren't involved in that. Sure she doesn't outwardly portray a positive competitive spirit being such a downer during her matches, but that doesn't stop the fact that she's very good at what she does. Seriously she did the one move that seriously rubbed shit in the face of her opponent, took that "romantic win" she was so eagerly hoping to be able to play and literally turned it right back on her. It was awesome.

I know i will hate when our MC is approached by that Ouji guy later. It will be either for vengeance or love interest, most likely a mix of both.

He sent her gloom to the graveyard at the end of that chapter

Maybe because almost all of them were Roman's fans or groupies wanting she to win and our little Manaka is a nobody with nobody cheering for her and on top of that she is using a type of deck that have not much love for it in the community.

Early bone wall decks in MTG were a thousand times more annoying than suppression decks simply because they were so dumb a 5 year old could wreck with it.

That ending, holy shit.

Op combo steal, hahaha! She's a counter genius, anti-strat deck wrecker. Why isn't anybody cheering for her?

I would actually be up cheering 'FUCK YEAH' for Manaka if that win happens in front of me. That was a perfect comeback from a near defeat.

agreed. i don't understand why all the gloom.
