Let's play a (tiresome) game, and see just how many mangas have similar premises!

And the plot goes as follow, most or all these points:
  • Based on a light novel
  • Takes place in another world/unspecified future where magic is common place
  • MC goes to highschool to learn about magic
  • MC discovers (or already knows he possess) an unusual/rare magic power
  • MC contracts loli spirit
  • MC has to possess a sword (more often than not, the mighty Japanese katana!)
  • Harem obviously
  • Lots of fanservice obviously (panty shots abounds where magic skirts are apparently an impossibility)
  • Student council President or similar position (discipline comitee, class representative, etc) obligatorily member of the harem
  • Ojou sama, more often than not blonde and foreign, obligatorily member of the harem (but never the main girl)
  • Ennemy is a terrorist organiztion for some reason

*le sigh* I just hope this manga to betray my expectations and to actually be pretty good, but I remain skeptical.

Can you add more mangas to those already listed?

And fail of a lifetime but mine screwed up there too >.<

Not sure how being an adaptation of a light novel can be considered a plot point but okay. The thing is manga adaptations of an already existing material, be it VN, LN or anime will always have better chances for sales as opposed to something that just popped up without any prior 'history', if you will.

Those that do sell though, get dragged on to the point where it becomes something ridiculous, you know what I'm talking about.

While I do know that what you are referring to is the manga version of some of the mentioned series, Blade Dance and Kenshin in particular has pretty good action in the original material. There have been volumes where it was pure action for the entire volume and contained little to almost no fanservice. So if you want to enjoy a genre that you used to enjoy, maybe you can give reading the novels a go.

I won't comment on originality since for me it's just like eating a vanilla ice cream from different brands, but ehh i'm not sure if the manga just wants to get the basic premise down asap or what but it was somewhat awkward to read... as in it just doesn't flow smoothly? I'm not sure the correct term for it. Well the art is somewhat passable i guess...

@One-Eyed Othinus

And IF there will ever be new trends of staple stories replacing this fantasy battle school theme, what do you think it would be? I'm placing my bets on either reincarnation or dungeon themed ones!

and I loved all of them. You guys just need to stop trying to be le anti trope hipsters

That's great sweetheart, but being tired of seeing the same rehashed and non original plots, and hoping something different comes out is not being "anti trope hipsters" (do you feel smart by inventing terms?), it's asking authors to not fall for complacency and the easy options.

You're easy to please? That's good, but then my comment clearly does not concern you, you can still continue to enjoy what you like and go on without seeing anything wrong with it. It's a matter of taste, and I don't judge people's taste. So kindly return the favor to me, who was only expressing my opinion alone, and let me criticize a genre I used to like but not so much nowadays, since I am not attacking its fans.

Or at least do so with a better argument that doesn't boil down to "I like it, and some others too, so you're wrong about it being bad, and you're hating anyway."

And good day to you too *drops mic*

Same, it may be a re-hash of similar stories but its still good

...

cliche ... a lot ... oh well, *follow* ...

(I kinda like this type of cliche, but I hope there won't be many of new manga follow all of this cliche ... almost get boring)

Followed for pretty much the same reason.  Trying to find a good romantic comedy/harem series to replace the couple that ended this year, with nothing that just stands out imo.

...to rob something I hold dear... how can someone say that without feel embarassed? So cliche it hurts -_-

Jesus it looks like her boobs are trying everything they can to pop out of that crazily small top.

I approve....

dat summary sounds like an 8th grader syndrome fantasy lol

and the best part is that it will have an anime hahahaha
http://myanimelist.net/anime/22663/Seiken_Tsukai_no_World_Break

hurrah another cliche anime XD saturate the market!

this sounds great

Oh god, so much chuuni it hurts.

Not only the premise of the story, but the MC tries so hard at his ''I am not noble'' act, it is just too funny.

THY NAME SHALL BE THE DARK FLAME MASTER!

I have to agree it really hurted... And that guy sounds so painfully conscious of himself that when we are given his situation, I can confidently affirm it will still hurt.

Well it might be cliche but at least the characters look like they'll be more likable than usual.

Manga pretty much summarizes chuunbiyou

"something I hold dear" Within two pages we get a outburst of cliche lines

Oh god, so much chuuni it hurts.

Not only the premise of the story, but the MC tries so hard at his ''I am not noble'' act, it is just too funny.

THY NAME SHALL BE THE DARK FLAME MASTER!

That escalated quickly...

Spoiler
