Description: Inaba Yuushi's parents died in his first year of middle school, and he moved in with his relatives. Though they did care for him, he could tell he was a burden. After he graduated, he happily prepared to move to a high school with a dormitory. Unfortunately, the dormitory burned to the ground before he could move in! Yuushi doesn't want to live with his grudging relatives, but it's rough finding lodging as an orphaned student with little money. He finally finds a room in a nice old building which seems too good to be true.

The catch is that it is a Monster House, a place where humans and supernatural creatures--ghosts, mononoke, etc.-- live together. Another high schooler lives there, a cute girl named Akine, and she's completely unfazed by the monsters. In fact, she can even exorcise evil spirits! Yuushi's high school life just got much stranger than he ever bargained for!

This series is honestly bland and the message is so hand fisted. The queer baiting is just so in your face, it's not even fun to read (yes they're queer baiting the live out of Yuushi and Have from the beginning; shy because they're sharing the same futon, papa mama metaphor, and the scene with kuri in the middle, etc. But guess what they're totally STRAIGHT guys, sure.)

Well we do know that the author too was, in fact, a woman...

what we do know:

  • She died in December 19th 2014
  • Youkai Apaato no Yuuga na Nichijou was a series of light novels she made.
  • Said light novels ended at volume 10 on the year 2009
  • She has other light novel works, but this is by far one of her more popular works.
Tsk...It should been the spanish inquisition instead we get supernatural version of 'men in black'
I like this well enough, but I haven't felt "not everyone can be neurotypical, Karen" so unironically in a while. I don't even like that phrase and I have to admit that's how I feel

Oh cool, a manga with a lot of homoerotic subtext made by some reactionary woman that hates technology and youngsters.

Heh, Furuhon-ya is John Lennon.

For some reason i cant stop thinking about GSYBE everytime i see ruriko-san lmaolift-yr-skinny-fists-like-antennas-to-he

The author died way back 2014

Not much information regarding his death

Wait, what?!

iinm someone did mention his death on old comment

She was in elementary school!? I thought, just like the workers, she was in high school

Actual low point: a grown ass man claiming that kids commit suicide just because they're attention-seeking (and being treated like the voice of reason).

Also the sudden swerve in plot direction was probably due to the death of the author in 2014.

I think you're being a little too harsh here and taking it way out of context.

Spoiler

TL;DR

She's 12. Of course she wants attention.  ALL kids want attention. She got mad at her parents because they didn't let her have friends over, then she fed her anger until it reached a boiling point, so then she decides to get back at them as dramatically as she can.

Some kids run away from home for attention. Kids have killed other kids just to be on TV (attention). Hell, there are middle schoolers that post nudes online or have sex just for popularity(attention). Just look at all the crazy shit people do on YouTube for views. And, yes actually, some people DO in fact kill themselves for attention.

But the novel had ended by them, hadn't it?

You know if the manga follows it right?

I have to agree with most of the comments, it was really good, them it started to have some weird perspective of older-generation-nostalgic-vibe that is quite irritating...

Having read all 30 chapters currently available, I'm disappointed.
Does anyone know if it gets better later on? Or is this all we can look forward to for a few more volumes?

Having read all 30 chapters currently available, I'm disappointed. It started off incredibly well, the first two volumes were genuinely interesting (if slow paced), unique and had a definite direction. Afterwards, however, the author seemed to have no idea where to go with the plot: the magic book the protagonist found has some sort of role in a couple of short story arcs but in all other cases just serves as comic relief, and otherwise... well, not much is really happening. Instead, we get

  • countless pages of people repeating stock phrases on how great youth is
  • countless pages of people eating (it looks as if Kouduki Hinowa really wanted to do a manga about food but was kept from doing so - I can see why, it's utterly boring)
  • the author using the characters as a soapbox to complain about how new technology sucks, society is out of touch with nature and young people are terrible nowadays (This is probably the low point of it all: https://bato.to/reader#7cf111b0f98e784e_27 A high school girl complaining about kids these days having too much freedom. Seriously, what the heck?)
  • somewhat heavy-handed life lessons, that actually don't really amount to much
  • weird homoerotic subtext that is mostly played for laughs

Does anyone know if it gets better later on? Or is this all we can look forward to for a few more volumes?

I like to think of this as the bromance that every guy wants.

Its okay to say that its you who wants it, no need to project onto everyone.

Spoiler

I feel you man, but I don't think their particular actions or deeds are what define their relationship, but rather the deep emotional connection they have to each other. I'd like to think that just having that mentality Hase does, being there for my bros when they need it most, when they need that extra push or punch in the face is enough to qualify as being a good bro. It's not about what you do or how long you do it, it's about the genuine intentions you have when you do it. Or at least that's how I interpret it.

Why can't you guys just accept they're gay. What's inherently wrong with that.

Spoiler

TL;DR There's no proof that Yuushi and Hase are actually gay, so assuming as much is fallacious and wishful thinking.

Too much yaoi vibes for me.

Not going to lie. If anyone I knew showed up at my place and payed my rent. I'd ask them to stay.

Hase is an adorable pain in the butt. I'm always really glad to read this.

Too much yaoi vibes for me.

Best news of the day. This summer is going to be excellent for me!
