Yanderes : typically present themselves as gentle, affectionate, and benign, only to later disclose a markedly darker psychological dimension. Their defining trait is an intense, often pathological fixation on the object of their affection. While certain portrayals refrain from any physical harm, the majority are depicted as intrusive or hypervigilant figures (frequently engaging in stalking behaviors and, in more extreme representations, resorting to violence or even homicide against perceived rivals.)
Because of these characteristics, yandere narratives tend to appeal primarily to a niche subset of readers who are receptive to complex, transgressive, and morally ambiguous character constructions. It is also important to note that this archetype is commonly associated with themes of coercion and no consent.
