Since he was very young, Hayashida has had the ability to hear people's thoughts when they're within a certain distance from him. He deals with it as best he can, and always tries to do right by his powers, but he longs to meet 'his fated one, the one whose mind he cannot read.' He soon notices that he can't hear the thoughts of the captain of the football team, and takes to watching them practice.
